If you came for an overnight stay Grouse Ridge Campground is a brilliant spot to camp; going for a hike on the Round Lake Trail is always a wonderful adventure. For the duration of the summer months at Shotgun Lake highs are frequently in the 90's; the nighttime is fairly cooler of course, typically in the 40's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 40's while Shotgun Lake nighttime low temperatures through       the winter are in the 20's. This lake is so wonderful. Jackson Creek is a glorious place to visit; the peak of Bowman Mountain can be spotted from Shotgun Lake. This lake is so wonderful. The slopes of Soda Springs are so inviting noone can resist, and on a magnificent day you can take a hike along the Crooked Lakes Trail. If you need a site to stay Shinneyboo Creek Cabin Resort is a great choice, and camping at Shotgun Lake is delightful fun, Canyon Creek                  Campground is a delightful local campground. And if that's not sufficient there's lots more enjoyable things to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Whitewater paddling is fine on Yuba River - South Fork, and there is a good hiking trail nearby called the Bowman Mountain Trail. Just can't get enough of the Northern Sierra Nevada. Everybody nearby loves skiing at Royal Gorge; Crooked Lakes is a great lake nearby. If you want a delightful time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Shotgun Lake. After a long day outdoors Rainbow Lodge is a tremendous site to spend a night or two, and during your spree here you'll meet some folks from Truckee-Grass Valley for sure. The yearly rain here at Shotgun Lake is about average; January is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is July. In the event that you don't mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Fordyce Creek.
