So much enjoyable stuff to do in the Santa Ynez Mountains, not sufficient time. If you need a place to stay Inn of the Spanish Garden is a good choice, and Lauro Canyon Reservoir is a nearby lake that you could stop at. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave

Gato Trail
 | 18 miles away This trail is gone without a trace, and is only visible on topographic maps dating from before the 1970s. Even on high-resolution aerial photography, you can find no evidence that there was ever a trail here, except in the lowest portion, which is on private land, completely and irretrievably closed to entry. The chaparral in this vicinity is old, hard, and impenetrable to anything larger than a rabbit. I hiked the lower portion last in 1974, and it was overgrown then; I had to trespass to get there. ...(?)The trail actually no longer exists.(?)... |
Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area

Notice that a large rock appears to be loose and or without support. It looks like the rock is supporting the trail above. Someone should take a closer look at that rock. In heavy rain it could come down. It looks unstable.... |
