Schaads Reservoir

I too fished Schadd's back in the late 50s and early 60s as a teenager. My Dad always had a great time chatting with Effie and Dewey, getting fairly twisted by afternoon. Great memories and some good stream fishing with hellgrammites we caught under rocks. That is a legacy that is irreplaceable! Says Gary Waldon

I learned to Trout fish at Schaad's in the late 50s early 60s. I met the Mrs. there in 1969, at that time Effie Schaad was kinda partnered up with
a bartender named Dewey Laughlin. He was quite the charecter, as was Effie. The fishing then was really good. Dewey had 3 trout ponds fed by a little diversion off the main river. They washed out on occasion putting 10 pound plus
browns in the north fork. Dewey would get drunk and pull a 12-pound brown out of the freezer. He'd bang it on the bar and mumble how great the fishing was. Says Jeffery Lee

I went to Shadds in April of 2010 the road was almost washed out due to a mud slide. Fly Fished the lake from a Pontoon Boat and caught nothing all day. Two people trolling the lake caught only 2 Trout in 2 days. There still are some Browns in the lake but they are very hard to fool

unless there is a hatch going on. The lake is lacking Trout now due to the lack of plants. I doubt the plant truck could get by the mud slide even if they could plant it. The river coming out of the lake is worth trying since fish
still come up in the winter and spawn from a lower lake. Says G. Richins

Anybody fished at Schaad's latetly. I am thinking about taking my kids Friday. Says Mike

For Ken, the road to Blue Creek just past the turn off to Schaads has been gated off by the lumber company. Says Terry

The Schaads properties are currently up for sale. I've heard the lake is now closed off -- Can anyone confirm? Says Terry

Shcaads is a dammed lake on the
middle fork of the the mokelumne river. Get out your banjos when you visit...very country-fryed. Fishing at Schaads has always been iffy, never good. The mid fork moke river above used to have small trout but CFG put in some otters and the fishing is nada. Blue Creek, a whole different drainage and miles away has a few small fish but not worth the effort on very rough roads. Go to the Stan river at the upper end of Melones Res. Hike up, catch some good ones. Says Eric Douglas

I am looking for directions back to Blue Creek. It is up the road several miles past Schaads. I havent fished there since the eighties and would like to go back. Any help out there? thanks fuzzykpd@inreach.com Says Ken

How big is the lake? Are water sports allowed? Wakeboarding? Says Curtis

I FISHED SCHADD'S THREE TIMES LAST YEAR AND IT WASN'T GOOD AS COMPARED TO PREVIOUS YEARS. I ALSO READ THAT IT WILL NO LONGER BE PLANTED DUE TO A RED FOOTED FROG ON THE ENDANGERED LIST. MANY OF OUR SIERRA LAKES WILL NOT BE PLANTED, CHECK OUT DEPT OF FISH AND GAME PLANTING SCHEDULE. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN TO OUR STATE? Says Joan Miller

The gate is always closed but hardly every locked. If the road is weather hampered then the gate is locked. Says Cliff Martin

It has been many many years since I've been there. I remember when you could drive all the way back where the river came in. I know you can't now. Can you tell me when it is ok to use the reservoir? It would be fun to visit again, if I can find it. Thank you, Says Chuck Baldwin

The gate is locked only in the winter so they don't mess up the road that is only in the winter. But you have to open and close the gate. Says Larry

I went to Schaad's lake twice in aug.,2006, and the gate was locked. Says bill sorensen
