Shcaads is a dammed lake on the middle fork of the the mokelumne river. Get out your banjos when you visit...very country-fryed. Fishing at Schaads has always been iffy, never good. The mid fork moke river above used to have small trout but CFG put in some otters and the fishing is nada. Blue Creek, a whole different drainage and miles away has a few small fish but not worth the effort on very rough roads. Go to the Stan river at the upper end of Melones Res. Hike up, catch some good ones.

I am looking for directions back to Blue Creek. It is up the road several miles past Schaads. I havent fished there since the eighties and would like to go back. Any help out there? thanks fuzzykpd@inreach.com

I FISHED SCHADD'S THREE TIMES LAST YEAR AND IT WASN'T GOOD AS COMPARED TO PREVIOUS YEARS. I ALSO READ THAT IT WILL NO LONGER BE PLANTED DUE TO A RED FOOTED FROG ON THE ENDANGERED LIST. MANY OF OUR SIERRA LAKES WILL NOT BE PLANTED, CHECK OUT DEPT OF FISH AND GAME PLANTING SCHEDULE. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN TO OUR STATE?

The gate is always closed but hardly every locked. If the road is weather hampered then the gate is locked.

It has been many many years since I've been there. I remember when you could drive all the way back where the river came in. I know you can't now. Can you tell me when it is ok to use the reservoir? It would be fun to visit again, if I can find it. Thank you,

The gate is locked only in the winter so they don't mess up the road that is only in the winter. But you have to open and close the gate.

I went to Schaad's lake twice in aug.,2006, and the gate was locked.

If you are in Calaveras county it's always a good idea to stop by Schaads Reservoir. The Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is always beautiful. A wonderful close by hotel is Angels Inn Motel, and if you fancy a little side visit, try Boston Flat Gulch. Any time is a fine time at Schaads Reservoir if you love the outdoors. You can catch a glimpse of Bald Mountain from Schaads Reservoir.

| | rains the most while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. If you need a place to stay Best Western Cedar Inn & Suites is a delightful choice, and a fine place to camp here at Schaads Reservoir is Sopiago Springs Resort. So much exciting stuff in the Northern Sierra Nevada, just unbelievable. Boston Flat is a beautiful place any time of year; naturally Forest Creek flows through this neighborhood.

Silver Mountain Park is always a tremendous experience, and whitewater paddling is great on Mokelumne River - North Fork. At Schaads Reservoir through the long summer days highs are in the 90's; the night is quite colder of course,
ordinarily in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 50's while the cold winter nights at Schaads Reservoir are in the 30's.
