Santa Margarita Lake beyond doubt is in the middle of a picturesque outdoors paradise. Going for a hike on the Hi Mountain Trail is always a nice adventure, and there are plenty of folks from San Luis Obispo-Paso Robles here. Summertime brings highs in the 60's to Santa Margarita Lake with overnight lows in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 60's, and through       the dark hours in the wintertime at Santa Margarita Lake temperatures plunge to the 40's. There are good spots to discover along the Fernandez Trail, and camping is available at Santa Margarita/San Luis Obispo KOA. Now, you may think that's a load but there's even more amusing things to do here in the Santa Lucia Range. There's some interesting stuff to observe at Salinas Dam in the vicinity of Santa Margarita Lake; if you need a spot to stay Apple Farm                  is a great choice. The Santa Lucia Range scenery is always beautiful. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Santa Margarita Lake without first going for a hike along the Machesna Trail, and after a long day outdoors La Cuesta Motor Inn is a tremendous spot to spend a night or two. Santa Margarita Lake is pretty arid mostly; January is the wettest month with most rain, and June is when it's the driest. And if that's not sufficient there's plenty more enjoyable stuff to do in the Santa Lucia Range.
