     And if that's not sufficient there's loads more cool stuff to do in the Central Sierra Nevada. Paddling on Tenaya Creek is so much fun, and a nice sight of gorgeous Isberg Peak is available. This lake is so wonderful. On a perfect day at Porphyry Lake you can take a hike along the John Muir Trail - section 2, and after a long day outdoors The Ahwahnee is a wonderful location to spend a night or two. This lake is located in the wonderful Central Sierra Nevada.
 
   Just can't get enough of the Central Sierra Nevada. San Joaquin River - Middle Fork has a nice whitewater paddling spot nearby; Porphyry Lake is pleasant enough to spend more than a day at, Bowler Group Campground is a pleasant local campground. This lake is so wonderful. The John Muir Trail - section 1 is a nice hiking trail in close proximity to Porphyry Lake, and do explore Post Lakes, it's a pretty lake. And if you're still looking for more outdoors exciting  
               stuff just keep reading. Camping at Clover Meadow Campground is always a glorious experience, and there is a perfect hiking trail nearby called the Clouds Rest Trail.
Dry warm beds await you at Heidelberg Inn, and a day on the slopes of June Mountain is just what you need. Porphyry Lake is a good place of normal precipitation; January is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month is August.
While you're here at Porphyry Lake, you could also have a look at pretty Ward Lakes, and you could always look at Isberg Pass. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 90's to Porphyry Lake. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 50's. Highs throughout the wintertime are frequently in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Porphyry Lake are in the 20's.
