Horseshoe Lake
15 miles away
...o. Ad. All that stuff is great though and easy to get to. As for Horseshoe Lake itself, it's very small, with poor fishing. It has a small dock, an indoor gun range, a humble yet awesome space observatory, and the golf course running behind all of it. Also bathrooms,  parking, water, dog poop bags, line recyclers. On the Lake's side of the road, it is legal to have your dog off-leash as long as he is 'under control'. Local dogs love it here and they all seem very friendly. The real beauty is the surrounding area of Bidwell Park. The trails going from there into Upper Park, run along both sides of the creek, and make for a very easy walk. There's fantastic scenery as you get closer to Salmon Hole, a very popular swimming spot, but the ''climb'' down to those calm waters amid the turbulent creek is a little steep for children and less sure footed people. Stick along the edge of the canyon as it gradually rises and you'll be treated to a nice sunset over the way you just came, with the winding canyon and it's white waters. Most of the park is semi-wild, with maintained trails and an occ...

Potato Patch Campground
17 miles away
We camp at Potato Patch campground annually with several other families. It is a very nice campground on a beautiful river. There is not a lot to do nearby though and it is a primitive campground with pit toilets and no showers. There are no hookups for RVs, but we tent camp anyway. We mostly play by the river (very cold water). Our attraction is the beauty and the people we camp with. We used to fish, but it is all catch and release. I can definitely recommend it but you have to be looking for a relaxing and beautiful setting and mostly doing not much of anything.

Black Rock Campground
19 miles away
Went fly fishing there for a day, it was great. Were leaving today to go on a camping trip there....Black Rock is a very beautiful place to go visit. The roads are very narrow and there are a lot of cliff sides. My grandfather lived out there for a few years on a ranch which borders the Ishi trail. I have walked the Ishi trail and that is a beautiful experience as well. It runs along a river. The whole drive in there is pretty amazing you can see the valley below plus the Big Black Rock sticking out of the ground it looks more like its own mountain....
