The reservoir is nestled at the bottom of a deep gorge carved by the mixed waters of the Middle Fork of the American and Rubicon rivers. If you arrive after a recent snowfall, the sight of a white-cloaked canyon gorge, with dazzling sunlight reflected by ice crystals hanging from bare branches, will take your breath away. Upon stepping out of your vehicle, your breath will cause steamy vapors to billow around you. With each intake, the sharp scents of winter, the smell of new snow and the tartness of wet rock mixed with damp vegetation, will excite the senses. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 50's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Oxbow Reservoir. After a long day outdoors NATIONAL 9 INN is a good place to spend a night or two. Oxbow Reservoir sees pretty high levels of rain; January is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month is July. Camping at Ralston       Campground is always a great experience, and there are some tremendous whitewater spots on American River - North Fork. This lake is so wonderful. At Oxbow Reservoir you can make out Sage Hill, and Chiquita Lake is a fine lake nearby. This lake is so wonderful. The Nevada Point Trail offers hiking at its best; lakes are such serene sites, why not stop by Lake Walton. You'll truly wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting stuff in the Northern Sierra Nevada.
