The reservoir is nestled at the bottom of a deep gorge carved by the mixed waters of the Middle Fork of the American and     Rubicon rivers. If you arrive after a recent snowfall, the sight of a white-cloaked canyon gorge, with dazzling sunlight reflected by ice crystals hanging from bare branches, will take your breath away. Upon stepping out of your vehicle, your breath will cause steamy vapors to billow around you. With each intake, the sharp scents of winter, the smell of new snow and the tartness of wet rock mixed with damp vegetation, will excite the senses.
