You could also go to Cottonwood Lakes since you're here at Muir Lake; it's close by, and the friendly folks of Bishop like to hang out nearby. This lake is so wonderful. Why not camp at Tuttle Creek Campground while you're here at Muir Lake, and glide down the rapids of Kern River in a kayak. At Muir Lake you don’t see much rain;       the month with most of the rain is January, and the driest month of the year is October. Don't try to stop me, cause I'm havin' a perfect time here at Muir Lake. Nearby lakes? Sure, Hidden Lake is close to Muir Lake, and Locust Grove Campground is a perfect local campground. All year is a nice time in the Southern Sierra Nevada if you like the outdoors. After a long day outdoors Best Western Frontier Motel is a perfect spot to spend a night or two, and going for                  a hike along the Mount Whitney Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. Muir Lake is one of the lakes here in the Southern Sierra Nevada. All through the warmest time of the year at Muir Lake highs are frequently in the 90's. Summer overnight lows sink down to the 60's. For the duration of the winter the highs are mostly in the 50's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Muir Lake. Life's too short to enjoy all the cool things in the Southern Sierra Nevada.
