Going for a hike on the Five Lakes Creek Trail is always a great adventure; Squaw Valley Lodge is a nice location to get some rest. That right there is a lot of fun stuff already but it goes on, the Northern Sierra Nevada has it all. Everybody loves Barker Meadow, and what would winter be without some skiing at Homewood.       Wentworth Springs Campground is a splendid local campground, and Long Lake is a nearby lake that you could have a look at. So much amusing stuff right next door to Mud Lake, clearly striking. You can run the rapids of American River - South Fork near Mud Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Put some time aside to spend at Rubicon Springs since you're here at Mud Lake; there is a wonderful hiking trail close by called the McKinstry Trail. You'll really wish for                  more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting things in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Miller Creek flows through this vicinity, and there's whitewater on Silver Creek - South Fork for all you adrenaline junkies. Having a nice time at Mud Lake is trouble-free. The summit of Barker Peak can be seen from Mud Lake; if you came for an overnight stay Pleasant Boat-In Campground is a great place to camp. This lake is so wonderful. Go for a hike on the Big Spring Trail; after a long day outdoors Village at Squaw Valley is a good place to spend a night or two. Gotta ski! Alpine Meadows is a tremendous location to do that; a lake nearby is Fern Lake. For the period of the summer months highs here at Mud Lake get into the 80's with overnight lows in the 40's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Mud Lake.
