Hiking along the Grouse Creek Tractor Way is perfect fun, and at Mud Lake you always meet someone from Eureka-Arcata-Fortuna. Buck Flat is a brilliant location to stretch your legs a bit; going for a hike along the Grouse Creek Tractor Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area. And that's not all you can do here in the Coast Ranges. You can run the rapids of       Mad River near Mud Lake, and if the weather is brilliant, you can go for a hike along the Dan East Trail. Bottleneck Spring is always fun to check out, and Mud Lake is a great site to visit for more than one day, Lazy Double B Park is a great site to camp nearby. This lake is so wonderful. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always check out nearby Clear Lake, and there's whitewater on Redwood Creek for all you adrenaline people. Just can't                  get enough of the Coast Ranges. Stay the night at Boise Creek Campground; you need to take a look at Black Rock if you're here. This lake is so wonderful. Not far from Mud Lake, you'll hit upon Sucker Lake which is a stunning lake, and Spike Buck Mountain is clearly visible from Mud Lake. Summertime at Mud Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 50's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Mud Lake. Mud Lake gets lots of water; throughout December this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is July.
