User input for Moose Lake, Southern Sierra Nevada, Tulare County, California:
Norm Poulsen: This is a picture I took of Moose Lake on a lengthy loop hike in the Sequoias taking the Lakes trail past Heather, Astor, Emerald, and Pear Lakes; then cross country over the divide above Moose Lake where I took this photograph looking down on the lake. I then returned to the trailhead by going southwest over the divide down to the Alta Trail through Panther Gap back to the Lakes trailhead. A very long day hike. I took pictures along the entire route.

Life's too short to enjoy all the cool things in the Southern Sierra Nevada. This is a good neighborhood for people who like lakes. Emerald Lake is a lake nearby, and there are some splendid whitewater spots on Kaweah River - Middle Fork. So many cool things in the Southern Sierra Nevada, just mind-boggling. While you're here at Moose Lake you can take a hike along the Sawtooth Pass Trail; Moose Lake is tremendous enough to spend more than a day at, Aspen Hollow

| | - Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park is a tremendous local campground. This lake is so wonderful. Have a great hiking adventure along the High Sierra Trail, and Alta Peak is delightful and can be distinguished from here. Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park is one of the destinations in the vicinity of Moose Lake that are good to go to, and you have to definitely dedicate some time to Alta Meadow while you're here at Moose Lake. During the long summer days | |
| |
at Moose Lake temperatures are frequently in the 70's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's; night lows through the wintertime for Moose Lake tend to be in the 20's.
The Southern Sierra Nevada scenery is always beautiful. If you came to camp Log Bridge Campground is a tremendous spot to do that, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Kaweah River.
This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Comfort Inn & Suites Sequoia Kings Canyon is a glorious site to spend a night or two. A typical amount of rainfall falls here at Moose Lake; the month with most of the rain is January
while July is ordinarily the driest month. This is no site for people who don’t like to have a good time. If the weather is great here at Moose Lake, you can go for a hike along the Atwell Hockett Trail, and you're perhaps keen on lakes, Pear Lake is one of those nearby.

Leavis Flat - Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park
 | Leavis Flat- I loved it! Small campground, right next to Deer Creek, only 9 sites. You can buy ice and extra necessities just up the road at the California Hot Springs (resort?) No cell phone service, ranger comes by once a day, it's very mellow. You are roughing it unless you bring an RV. No showers or flush toilets. So beautiful. We were there for Memorial Wknd. Some locals said it's usually pretty empty but the campground was full for our trip. I've heard they might shut it down. Maybe it's not bringing in enough cash for the upkeep. I bathed in the creek. My boyfriend wasn't so brave, too cold for him. If you're planning on doing the sights at the Sequoia National Park, it's a two hour drive to Morro Rock to give you an idea. The creek is so pretty and the water is drinkable, not deep enough to swim but perfect to cool off. The mosquitoes weren't too bad and with the right company, it's the perfect setting to get totally away! My boyfriend has all the pics on his phone, but I'll come back and post them.... |

Kaweah River - North Fork
 | 18 miles away re: North Fork of the Kaweah River, you might want to mention that the BLM sites are closed, and if you trespass onto the BLM sites you can get ticketed. Boaters/swimmers etc. should not be encouraged to trespass onto private property to enter or exit the river....This river smells like dirty diapers and beer.... |
