John Muir Trail - section 1
| The Bigbee Bottom trail is a 3.8 mile loop trail that takes you into a hardwood forest near the banks of the Black Warrior and Tombigbee Rivers. The trail ranges from easy to moderate and has 2 wildlife food plots for wildlife viewing. The Lower Pool Trail is a 1.6 mile loop trail that also runs through the hardwood forest and gives great views of the lower pool falls. The trail is easy and also has a wildlife food plot for wildlife viewing. Plans are in the works to create a bridge over the gorge to connect the Bigbee Bottom with the Lower Pool trail. Once this happens, the trail will be a combined length of 5.4 miles. Please see link below for more information including maps and photos.

Badger Pass
Badger Pass is the perfect place to learn to ski or snowboard. It has a really long bunny slope, and all the other trails are pretty easy too. The problem is that once you know how to ski without a V-shape thingy the place has little to offer. The staff is very friendly though....

Bare Island Lake
14 miles away I fish this lake every year and have never be skunked, I use my float tube , and sometimes just relax and fish from the bank, either way I have always been successful. I use spinners , flies and night crawlers. fishing here is best in the early morning and late afternoon. camping here is excellent also, bring warm clothing , and remember to keep it clean ...
Spotted Lakes
14 miles away My family and I horse packed into Spotted lakes years ago. Can you still go in by horse? If so can someone give me a name of a company that does that. Thanks...You can't see Gale Peak from Spotted Lakes, Red Top and Sing Peak dominate the views and you must cross-country over to Chain Lakes if you want to see Gale Peak. All peaks are great day hikes that provide fantastic view of the Ansel Adams Wilderness as well as the east side of the Ritter Range. The trail to Spotted Lakes is faint and difficult to find and also difficult to stay on even if found ... that's what makes it a great place to go, few people can find it and it has a unique beauty being an atypical lake, i.e. not round or oblong but actually a series of canals connected by wider ''lake'' sections. Great rocks for diving and sunning yourself, rock climbing too....
Lost Lake
15 miles away It is still lost. We tried several roads to get there today and had no luck. We even got directions from Jones Store and still didn't make the connection. We've actually ben there and stayed several days many years ago but still couldn't remember how. Still lost!...

Jackass Lakes
18 miles away 1 PHOTO Went the ''difficult'' way with my family and I agree... do not stop at the Jackass Lake trailhead off of Beasore Rd unless you want a very challenging hike up +/- 2k in elevation change. Go further to Norris lake trailhead and hike up. Beyond the hike (both my 7 and 5 yr olds made it) the lake is nice and the views are awesome!!!!... Jackass Lakes is a very beautiful lake and the trail leading there is quite enjoyable. I have made two seperate trips to the Lower lake, but I've yet to continue on up to the higher lake. There are two different trails that I know of leading to these lakes. The first I hiked with my girlfriend JB, and the trailhead can be found right off of Beasore Rd. The marker for the trailhead is just off the road on your right. The trail begins just across the street from the marker. This particular trail is VERY challenging. Only suggested for hikers in good shape or really looking for a workout. The hike took up about 3+ hours one-way to complete, and the entire trek was done at a pretty steep incline. Just when we had reached the lake a ranger informed us that nobody goes that way because it's too difficult...they use the OTHER trail. (great) So, the next trip I made I used this other trail, which is accessible by the Norris Creek trailhead. (This trailhead offers at least 3 different opportunities for hiking trails and destinations.) Using the Norris trail proved much easier and boasted clas...
Greys Mountain Campground
19 miles away I have been camping at greys mountain for abuot 10 years now. Long before they started chargine. Greys is the best place to camp. From fishing off the bridge or creek or playing in the meadows there is always something to do. Oh and if ya follow the trail through camp that leads to the great meadow you will come tto another narrow trail follow it a bit further and you will find the waterfall swimming holes and the silver cape for the younger ones who need more calm shallow water. Hope you all have fun up there!...
