Throughout the winter highs are in the 40's while the cold winter       nights at McKinstry Lake are in the 20's. This lake is so wonderful. Don’t forget to pop by Hells Half Acre since you're here at McKinstry Lake, and do stop at Barker Creek since you're here at McKinstry Lake. If the weather is pretty, you obtain a splendid panorama of Guide Peak from McKinstry Lake, and why not take a refreshing hike along the McKinstry Trail. Silver Creek - South Fork has a brilliant whitewater paddling spot close by; since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always explore close by Bugle Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Not far from McKinstry Lake, you'll find Loon Lake which is a pretty lake; dry warm beds await you at Squaw Valley Lodge.
