A tremendous sight of pretty Guide Peak is available from McKinstry Lake, and the slopes of Homewood are so inviting noone can resist. This lake is so wonderful. Get dripping wet paddling on Silver Creek - South Fork; a short tour to Mineral Springs is always worthwhile. Don't try to stop me, cause I'm havin' a brilliant time here at McKinstry Lake. Soar down the rapids of American River -       South Fork in a kayak, and Squaw Valley Lodge is a tremendous site to get some rest. And if that's not enough there's lots more exciting stuff to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada. This lake is so wonderful. McKinstry Lake is not the only place close by, Loon Lake is a close by lake. There's so much to do here at McKinstry Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Pleasant Boat-In Campground is a nice site for that. Just can't get enough of the Northern                  Sierra Nevada. The Steamboat Trail is a great hiking trail in the vicinity of McKinstry Lake. You'll need more than a day to explore everything McKinstry Lake has to offer, you can camp at Wentworth Springs Campground. At McKinstry Lake all through the summer highs are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 40's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and night lows through the wintertime for McKinstry Lake tend to be in the 20's. Don't leave McKinstry Lake without first checking out Red Cliffs; after a long day outdoors Plumpjack Squaw Valley Inn is a brilliant place to spend a night or two. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the fun things at McKinstry Lake. On a brilliant day at McKinstry Lake you can take a hike along the McKinstry Trail, and a lake nearby is Bugle Lake. The high level of rain makes McKinstry Lake a rather wet spot; the month with most of the rain is January, and July on the other hand is the driest. And that's not all you can do here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Hells Half Acre is a glorious location to check out, and if you're looking for some flowing water? Try Barker Creek.
