|| ||We've camped at Wagners Campground every summer when I was a kid.I haven't been there since 1983 until this year 2015. It's the most beautiful place and a lot of fun for kids if they love to swim. My kids loved it. I hope they will bring thier kids here someday!!! The lady in the Wagner store was so nice. She baked a cake for my brother-in-law's birthday. This place has some good memories! Says Jacqueline|
Thanks for posting the pictures, It brings back
great memories from my childhood, I spent every summer for 2 weeks at the sweetwater campground, and hiked all over those mountains and fished every stream down to the lake. Thanks again. Says Ed B|
|not talk to much about it, it will be come too busy! Says KJA|
Shhhhhhh!!!! People!! Don't you know you are not supposed to let the word out about our favorite camping spot. Says CJ
Friends and I stumbled on Mammoth Pools late one afternoon in 1970. It was dark before we got situated and what a surprise awaited us in the AM. We've been back almost every year since. Three generations of us migrate there together. We've gone from Jim and I and our wives
and kids, to as many as thirty camping together. We're from LA area so it's a 8 hour trek but always worth it. People at Wagner's Store are really nice. Items are a bit pricey but you gotta remember that they have to pay to get everything
|| ||up there. On balance everything is well worth the price. Take well stocked first aide kit. No health facilities up there and it's an hour drive down to North Fork and another hour to Fresno.|
Mammoth Pools is Yosemite w/o any people. Go once and you'll be going the rest of your life... Says William Guettler
I started camping at Mammoth pools since the early 60's.
My family used to camp just below Wagners on the other side of the bridge.
It was gravel road coming in and winter time was out of the question for most.|
It was the most secluded place. Only 2 maybe 3 campers would be there at the same time. Hunters, and sometimes cowboys and of coarse fishermen.
The fishing was so good. I used a black rooster tail and every time it would hit the water, I would get a hit. The browns were very abundant then and the trout in the creek were also abundant. These were not planters. I caught a 8
lb brown which was a lot smaller than the record!
So how is it there now? I have not been there in over 30 years. When the roads got paved it got crowded and lost its natural beauty. The trees started to die and turn brown.
I remember when you looked out on the forest, a dead tree was caused from lighting. Now the trees are brown and it looks so much different.
My Grandson will never know the beauty that I enjoyed. Very unfortunate that as a people
we allow the destruction of such beauty and wonder. Very saddening!
The worse part is that I played a role in it! Says T Shamblin
Yea my family and I go there every labor day weekend we actually just came back two days
ago it was great the water is nice and fresh the sky is clear there's plenty of crawfish and trout up here we actually came upon a bear and had to scare it away with a whistle. We have been coming here for ten years now and it has
been great. Once your there u don't want to think about anything. You just want to relax and enjoy the time with your family and friends my dad doesn't care if we have to drive from all the way in sylmar which is an 8 hour drive!!!
But anyways it beautiful out there and it's a great place to camp and have fun!!! Goodbye hope you go one summer!!(: Says Chris
It's beautiful here in mammoth pool!!! Says Christian

We're thinking of camping at mammoth lakes in July. Where's the best place? Says Tom
Too windy. Lake level drops significantly starting in July with
severe hazards. Don't waste your time. Says T-DE
Myself and my brother have been camping at Wagners Campground at Mammoth Pool Reservoirs since the 70's. We grew up every summer here and now we have our families and friends
that join us every summer. Its a beautiful, peaceful and fun place to raise your kids on camping. Boating is great on the lake since you can sneak in some great water for catching some BIG AIR! with no one on the lake but maybe 1-2
boats. Its a great place to have your kids learn all the water sports, you don't have to worry about other boaters trying to run them over!!!!! as most lakes are!!! SEE YA THERE!!! Says OPP party
I have been camping @ the Wagner's
Campground since 1981 and my wife has been going there just before the lake was formed. How long have you been going there? We usually go between June-July. Says Chet
Mammouth Pool is a place my son and I try to visit every
year. Despite the drop in water starting in August, it is still a great fishery. The available camp grounds are well maintained and clean but be advised, some can only take shorter RV's so check out the sites before going. If your
20 plus long w/vehicle, I advise Soda springs. Lots os space and ample area to park where as Sweetwater although I love this site, cannot take the longer units, DRATS! Don't miss out however, this watershed has many things to offer
in the summer months when the launch ramp is available. The store does offer fuel but BE ALERT! It aint cheap! Best load up in Northfork or Fresno. As for a final stop, check out the great barkery in Northfork before heading up. You
might make a purchase and ask if you can fill up 5 gallons of water from the tap there. It's an artisian well water and soooooo good! Says Bob D
We've camped at Jackass for nearly 20 yrs.now. Very secluded and peaceful. It's not a designated campground, so you are definetly on your own as far as toilets, showers etc. go. Mammoth pools, Sweetwater, Wagners are just a few of the fun places nearby. Sweetwater has some breathtaking views and stocked with trout wkly. Mammoth pools is a lot of fun, with it's ''stairs'' and water deep enough to dive into from the many huge boulders all around. It has very few people, you can swim with out fear of being run over and participate in other water sports as well, and have plenty of space to do so.
