This lake is one of the great places here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. What a site this is for outdoors people. Lakes? Sure, Lake Sylvia is in the vicinity; a nice place for whitewater paddling is Silver Creek - South Fork. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Lyons Lake that you need to camp here for a       while, Pyramid Campground is a nice place for that; there are nice spots to explore along the Red Peak Trail. But wait, there's more cool stuff to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Lyons Lake is great enough to spend more than a day at, Thirty-nine Mile Campground is a great local campground, and the skiing at Homewood is brilliant. This lake is so wonderful. One of the main features of the surroundings of Lyons Lake is Blue Mountain, and you can run the                  rapids of American River - South Fork. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Northern Sierra Nevada. Don't leave Lyons Lake without first going for a hike along the Highland Trail; there are other places here than Lyons Lake, for example Smith Lake. High temperatures at Lyons Lake through the days of summer are in the 70's, and the nighttime is a little colder of course, mostly in the 40's. All through the winter the highs are mostly in the 40's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Lyons Lake descend into the 10's. If you like skiing, you're in luck; Sierra at Tahoe is in the vicinity of Lyons Lake, and after a long day outdoors The Meadow is a pleasant place to spend a night or two.
