Robert:
Since I have gotten a lung disease that makes it difficult to be in higher altitudes, my wife and I haven't been back to  Lundy in a few years.  Lundy is just short of 8,000 feet.  We used to stay a week, and just relax and do  fishing and hiking.  We do miss it, but maybe we'll come back for a short visit.  We'd like to go there for a day during October when it's a lot cooler and less crowds.  I hope the fishing is still great.

Robert:
My wife and I have stayed at Lundy for several years during the summer.  It's a delightful place.  We have rented one of their cabins during that time.  The people who run the resort are great, and will offer advice on fishing, hiking, etc.  I rent a boat to go fishing while my wife enjoys the quiet and reads or knits.  It's a great place to go to unwind from the stress of living in the city.  And, a plus:  The fishing is great!

It is very waterless here at Lundy Lake ordinarily; the wettest month of the year is usually , that's the one that snows the most, and January on the other hand is the driest. This lake is so wonderful. There's delightful hiking along the Pacific Crest Trail - section 12, and after a long day outdoors Heidelberg Inn is a perfect place to spend a night or two. Don't leave

Virginia Lakes
I went there last may, and it snowed like crazy. It didn't stop me from fishing I caught 60 plus in 4 hours....

Gardisky Lake
Steep trail with many switchbacks approx. one-and-a-quarter miles in length. The lake has perhaps an overpopulation of brook trout. Best place to fish is from the north shore about halfway. Use night crawlers, or a # 12 or 14 dry fly called a ''Lake Mary Special''. In several years of fishing perhaps twenty or so visits, I managed to catch a brookie slightly less than ten inches in length. The most unusual fish was an eight-incher with a four inch brook halfway down its throat (hook got caught in dorsal fin!). Advice: This is a poor location to get caught in a thunderstorm. Worse, is that when that steep trail gets wet is gets quite slick and can be a real downhill challenge. Also downhill is not very nice to middle-aged knees! The scenery is top notch, take advantage of the awe-inspiring view of the spectacular peaks as you leave and head back toward highway 120 down the gravel road....

Mono Vista RV Park
Park and facilities were VERY clean and provided a peaceful relaxing stay for my family and I. Great location even if you want to visit Yosemite. The drive over the Tioga pass is well worth the hour and a half because of the spectacular scenery. Loved it so much, I reserved a space to tent camp this time! ...

Doc and Al's Robinson Creek Resort
11 miles away
My family and I have been going to Doc and Al's for the past 18 years and love it! You'll find stories like this of families coming back the same week every year for decades is not uncommon here. It's a great place for young and old, couples and families. If you're looking for a nice place to relax and enjoy the outdoors, this is definitely the place! I grew up with vacations along Robinson Creek and on the shores of Twin Lakes, and I plan on taking my kids someday. If you're considering a trip up here, I definitely recommend it!...

John Muir Trail - section 2
15 miles away
The Rocky Branch Trail is currently 1.7 miles (One Way) from the Day Use Trailhead to the Old Lock 14 Site and Overlook.  However we are expanding this trail to be a 4-5 mile loop trail that takes you along the banks of the Black Warrior River and Rocky Branch.  A new trailhead, along with kiosk and trail signs, have been created right outside the day use park for year round accessibility.  This trail will also have 2 group primitive campsites for overnight use.  This trail ranges from moderate to difficult and will provide fantastic views of the river.  All of this is set to be completed by May 2009.  Please see link below for more information including maps and photos.
