This site, the Central Sierra Nevada, has so much outdoors entertaining stuff. If you need a spot to stay Super 8 Bishop is a splendid choice, and you'll locate a pretty lake called Upper Horton Lakes. Longley Lake is a beautiful lake in the Central Sierra Nevada. If you came for an overnight stay North Lake Campground is a delightful place to camp, and get your pulse rate up on the great whitewater of San Joaquin River - South Fork. This lake is so wonderful.

| | Dry warm beds await you at Days Inn Bishop, and a pleasant view of scenic Basin Mountain is available. So many enjoyable things to do in the Central Sierra Nevada, not enough time. If the weather is pleasant here at Longley Lake, you can go for a hike along the Kings River Trail, and do pop by Horton Lake, it's a striking lake. The John Muir Trail - Pacific Crest Section is a fine hiking trail right next door to Longley Lake, and a trip to Devils Postpile | |

National Monument is worthwhile. At Longley Lake you don’t see much precipitation; all through the month of January you get the most rain around here, and June is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. A day on the slopes
of Mammoth Mountain is just what you need. At Longley Lake during the days of summer highs are in the 90's while nighttime lows are generally in the 50's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 50's, and nighttime
lows at Longley Lake through the wintertime usually drop into the 20's. If only every spot had this much outdoors amusing stuff, what a great earth it would be. Sabrina Campground is a good local campground; a glorious place for whitewater paddling is Kings River - Middle Fork.

Sabrina Campground
 | I have such fond memories of family trips to Sabrina and camping just up from the lake on the stream side. Don't know what the campground name was or even if it had a name back in thoes days. It was every summer in 1960's. First went there when I was a baby. My parents packed back in several times. Anyway, my Dad died a few months ago and he always said he wanted to go back before he died. I like to think that he is there somewhere fishing that stream by the campground that we all loved so much. Fond Fond memories.... |
Big Trees Campground
 | The only way to drop a kayak in Kings river is a very long drive (maybe 4-5 hours) to the west side or the range, or lugging it through the wilderness (over the spine). I think I would have to give a gold medal to anyone who would lug a kayak from Big Trees to Kings river. Just a heads-up.... |
