Long Lake sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily January, that's the one that rains the most, and July is the month with the least moisture. Going for a hike along the Long Valley Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region, and the sight of Devils Peak is pretty. This lake is so wonderful. A perfect nearby hotel is Holiday Inn Express Truckee, Ca, and       whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Fordyce Creek. High temperatures at Long Lake throughout the summertime months are in the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's while Long Lake overnight low temperatures during the winter are in the 20's. This lake is so wonderful. Long Lake is a good spot to visit for more than one day, Cold Springs Campground is                  a good spot to camp nearby; on a good day you can take a hike along the Lola Montez Trail. There are some glorious whitewater spots on Yuba River - South Fork; after a long day outdoors Plumpjack Squaw Valley Inn is a great site to spend a night or two. Man, is there plenty of fun stuff to do in the neighborhood of Long Lake. You could also check out Cascade Lakes since you're here at Long Lake; it's nearby, and you can stay the night at Van Norden Campground. There's no way anybody can get bored here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. You can never get enough of the good skiing at Soda Springs; possibly you're looking for nearby lakes? Sure, Kidd Lake is just a very short distance away. So much cool stuff to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada, not enough time. Really glorious skiing awaits you at Boreal, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Heath Falls Overlook Trail.
