A perfect nearby hotel is Village at Squaw Valley, and going for a hike on the McKinstry Trail is always a splendid adventure. Fern Lake is a nearby lake that you could check out, and there are tremendous places to explore along the Highland Trail. This place rocks, just explore all the fun things to do in the neighborhood of Long Lake. A tour to Long Lake wouldn't be complete without taking       a look at Rubicon Springs, and paddling on American River - South Fork is so much fun. Any time is a splendid time at Long Lake if you have a thing about the outdoors. For the duration of the summertime months at Long Lake highs are typically in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows during the wintertime for Long Lake tend to be in the 20's. The peak                  of Devils Peak can be observed from Long Lake, and don't leave Long Lake without first going for a hike along the Loon Lake Trail. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Squaw Valley Lodge is a good choice, and Silver Creek - South Fork has a good whitewater paddling spot nearby. Life's too short to enjoy all the enjoyable stuff in the Northern Sierra Nevada. A quick trip to Miller Creek in the neighborhood of Long Lake is a good idea, and Long Lake is a great place to visit for more than one day, Wentworth Springs Campground is a great place to camp nearby. Long Lake sees pretty high levels of rain; January is the wettest month with most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. This lake is so wonderful. There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Homewood, and Pleasant Boat-In Campground is a tremendous local campground. So many cool things in the Northern Sierra Nevada, just incredible.
