The beauty of Lily Pond is reason enough to stop by. This lake is so wonderful. Enjoy a lazy day on the beach at Calawee Cove Beach, and camping at General Creek Campground is always a great experience. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Silver Creek - South Fork; Alpine Meadows is a magnificent local ski area. Lily Pond gets a typical amount of precipitation; most of the snow falls during January; the driest of
   the months is July.
You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the entertaining stuff at Lily Pond. Have a glorious hiking adventure along the General Creek Trail, and Lost Lake is a nearby lake that you could check out. And that's not all there is to do here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Going for a hike along the Pacific Crest Trail - section 14 will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area, and Lester Beach is rather nearby if you're in

a beach type of mood. This lake is so wonderful. If the weather is glorious here at Lily Pond, you can go for a hike along the Highland Trail, and if you came to camp Meeks Bay Resort & Marina is a delightful location to do that.
The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Lily Pond. Summer nighttime lows plunge down to the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's while Lily Pond overnight low temperatures during the winter are in the 10's. Lily Pond is a beautiful lake in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Just can't get enough of the Northern Sierra Nevada. You'll meet a lot of folks from Gardnerville Ranchos here, and if you need a location to stay Pepper Tree Inn is a delightful choice.
Don't you try to stop me, cause I'm havin' a magnificent time here at Lily Pond. While you're here at Lily Pond, you could also go to pretty McKinney Lake; there are some perfect whitewater spots on American River - South Fork. The skiing at Homewood is glorious, and Resort At Squaw Creek is a tremendous site to get some rest.

Lake Number Three
Lake #3 lies a couple of miles inside the Desolation Wilderness Boundary. Upon arrival, you find yourself along a lake which is beautifully cradled against the Crystal mountain range. On a clear day, you can see well into the Sacramento Valley and beyond. Clear days in the valley are few and far between in the summer though. Absolutely beautiful destination for a hike....

Grouse Lake
Great hiking, the trail starts at Wrights Lake, which is a beautiful lake in its own right, and heads up. If your looking for a good walking trail I would suggest staying on the Wrights Lake ''loop'' trail that circles the lake. But if you want a good hiking/climbing trail the Grouse Lake hike is the one for you. Even in late August the wild flowers were still in bloom and when you reach the top you cannot ask for better views of the surrounding area. From certain points in the trail you can see Ice House Lake as well as looking down on Wrights Lake. I am a bit on the older side so I stop and rest 3-4 times on the way up and it took me a little over 2 hours to reach the top, the last 10-15 minutes were rather steep, but well worth it. There are 2 more lakes beyond Grouse Lake that are an easy walk....

Heavenly

...choices. With more recreation and entertainment options than any other winter resort destination vying for your attention, you've got plenty of decisions to make.

Do you ski California or Nevada? Do you want jaw-dropping views of incredibly-blue Lake Tahoe, or the stark contrast of the high Nevada desert below? Will it be 34 miles of wide-open, groomed cruisers, 1,600-foot plunges in the double-black canyons or the most outrageous tree skiing in North America? Is it the 80-foot jumps in High Roller Terrain Park, or a thrill ride on the 3,300-foot-long Heavenly Flyer, the longest zip line in the continental U. S. ?

And when the sun goes down, there's a veritable Pandora's Box of choices and temptations. On-mountain exhilaration yields to après ecstasy in the form of Vegas-style action, all-night dance clubs, world-class entertainment and five-star dining.

So what do you choose? Mother Nature? Lady Luck? Or something in between?

Heavenly will test your decision-making like no other winter destination- choose wisely. There are only so many hours in a day ...

Round Lake
18 miles away
This small ''round'' lake is the beginning of the ''Upper Truckee River'' which flows into Lake Tahoe, and the outflow is known simply as the ''Truckee River'' which ends up flowing into Pyramid Lake, in Nevada. Compared to further south in the Sierra Nevada range the local scenery is not as majestic but is indeed pretty, easy to hike and unlike very high altitude locations, offers better campsites. The lake contains one species of trout, the Lahontan Cutthroat. Back in the early 1970's I managed to catch and release a couple dozen specimens weighing between one and two pounds. The fish are classically well-marked and the flesh is a pronounced pink. I have found over several trips that the lake fish are harder to catch than the fish in the outflow canyon. ...

Onion Creek Campground
18 miles away
You cannot get close to this campground in January under 10+ feet of snow. Sure its 3.5 miles from Ice Lakes Lodge on a bumpy dirt road, getting to some of the other spots they mentioned would be quite a trek especially if not in a 4x4 or dirt bike. Very rugged terrain....

ya its cool...first time i went there...i had a blast...i guarantee i am coming back ti snowboard...AAA++++...Man, this place is tiny. I like it that way, it's very cozy and inspiring....Boreal is a great little ski area, plenty of fun runs and good snow. It's a lot smaller than most ski areas around here which is of course both good and bad. But for a resort of this size it's perfect....
