Lewis Lake is a nice lake to visit. This lake is so wonderful. Hiking along the Sheep Creek Trail is good fun, and not far from Lewis Lake you'll come across Slide Lakes which is a striking lake. You'll really wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the enjoyable things in the Central Sierra Nevada. Kennedy Pass is next to Lewis Lake and is a great location, and swing by West Fork Kennedy Creek it's a wonderful place to check out. A tour to Sequoia & Kings

| | Canyon National Park is worthwhile; in the event that you don’t have a problem getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Kings River - Middle Fork. The amount of precipitation that falls at Lewis Lake is close to the national average; the month of January is the wettest with most of the rain; July is when it's the driest. If you came to camp Sheep Creek Campground is a great spot to do that; you can have a fine hiking adventure along the Pacific | |

Crest Trail - section 11. Lewis Lake is a beautiful lake in the Central Sierra Nevada. That right there is loads of exciting things already but it goes on, the Central Sierra Nevada has it all. Lakes? Sure, West Kennedy Lake is
nearby, and at Lewis Lake you can distinguish Kennedy Mountain. And if that's not enough, there's a load more to do in close proximity to Lewis Lake. There's so much to do here at Lewis Lake that you need to camp here for a while,
Sentinel Campground is a fine spot for that, and Kings River has a tremendous whitewater paddling spot close by. For the duration of the warm months, highs frequently are in the 70's at Lewis Lake, and during the night it cools down
to the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's, and overnight lows throughout the winter for Lewis Lake tend to be in the 20's. This lake is so wonderful. Take a hike on the Don Cecil Trail.

Moose Lake
 | 15 miles away This is a picture I took of Moose Lake on a lengthy loop hike in the Sequoias taking the Lakes trail past Heather, Astor, Emerald, and Pear Lakes; then cross country over the divide above Moose Lake where I took this photograph looking down on the lake. I then returned to the trailhead by going southwest over the divide down to the Alta Trail through Panther Gap back to the Lakes trailhead. A very long day hike. I took pictures along the entire route.... |
Leavis Flat - Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park
 | 15 miles away Leavis Flat- I loved it! Small campground, right next to Deer Creek, only 9 sites. You can buy ice and extra necessities just up the road at the California Hot Springs (resort?) No cell phone service, ranger comes by once a day, it's very mellow. You are roughing it unless you bring an RV. No showers or flush toilets. So beautiful. We were there for Memorial Wknd. Some locals said it's usually pretty empty but the campground was full for our trip. I've heard they might shut it down. Maybe it's not bringing in enough cash for the upkeep. I bathed in the creek. My boyfriend wasn't so brave, too cold for him. If you're planning on doing the sights at the Sequoia National Park, it's a two hour drive to Morro Rock to give you an idea. The creek is so pretty and the water is drinkable, not deep enough to swim but perfect to cool off. The mosquitoes weren't too bad and with the right company, it's the perfect setting to get totally away! My boyfriend has all the pics on his phone, but I'll come back and post them.... |

Sabrina Campground
 | 19 miles away I have such fond memories of family trips to Sabrina and camping just up from the lake on the stream side. Don't know what the campground name was or even if it had a name back in thoes days. It was every summer in 1960's. First went there when I was a baby. My parents packed back in several times. Anyway, my Dad died a few months ago and he always said he wanted to go back before he died. I like to think that he is there somewhere fishing that stream by the campground that we all loved so much. Fond Fond memories.... |
