     At Lake Piru you don’t see much rainfall; the month of February is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month of the year is July. This place, the Sierra Madre, has so much outdoors fun stuff. A nice site to stop by near Lake Piru is Blanchard Canyon, and Days Inn Castaic Six Flags Magic Mountain is a tremendous spot to get some rest. You can run the rapids of Piru Creek close to Lake Piru, and hiking along the Devil Canyon Trail is splendid fun.
 
   This lake is so wonderful. Dominguez Campground is a fine campground nearby, and a good close by hotel is Rodeway Inn Magic Mountain Area. Throughout the summertime months at Lake Piru highs are typically in the 80's while nighttime lows are mostly in the 60's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 40's with temperatures at Lake Piru dipping down into the 30's through winter nights. Any time is a fine time at Lake Piru if you have a thing about the outdoors.  
               Lake Piru is a great local campground, and there's always Santa Felicia Dam to explore in close proximity to Lake Piru.
Get your heart pumping on the great whitewater of Piru Creek; Juan Fernandez Spring is always fun to check out. This lake is one of the great places here in the Sierra Madre. Have a brilliant hiking adventure along the Canton Canyon Trail, and do take a hike on the Pothole Trail.
If you like the outdoors you'll like it here in the Sierra Madre. You're sure to come across some smiling people from Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura here; a pretty lake like Elderberry Lake is a nice location to check out. This lake is so wonderful. Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is a magnificent national park, and Castaic Lagoon is a tremendous lake close by. There's just no way someone can get bored here at Lake Piru.

Hi, please take a look at the attached photo.  I took it today in La Jolla Canyon, at the water fall (dry now).  Notice that a large rock appears to be loose and or without support.  It looks like the rock is supporting the trail above.  Someone should take a closer look at that rock.  In heavy rain it could come down.  It looks unstable....

I stopped by here because I noticed there was rock worth exploring for climbing, but when I approached the gate, it said the area was closed to the public. This seemed like a great place to visit, get some climbing in and then take a dip in the lake. If anyone has any further information about the closing, please post it....
