This lake is so wonderful. The friendly people of San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara like to hang out nearby, and Aubry Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth visiting. A glorious nearby hotel is Saratoga Oaks Lodge, and Beatty Slide is an interesting location to explore while at Lake McKenzie. Now, you may feel that's heaps but there's even more entertaining things to do here in the Santa Cruz Mountains. If time allows, Juan Bautista De Anza
National Historic Trail is a national park worth checking out, and if you would like a little side trip, try Congress Springs Canyon.
Whohoo, so many enjoyable things in one place! The Santa Cruz Mountains is great! Playing golf is lots of fun at Deep Cliff Golf Course, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Sequoia Nature Trail. This lake is so wonderful. If the weather is delightful, you get a nice sight of The Peak from Lake McKenzie; hiking

along the Rincon Fire Road Trail is magnificent fun. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the enjoyable things at Lake McKenzie. After a long day outdoors The Inn At Saratoga is a great spot to spend a night or two. There's so much to do here at Lake McKenzie that you need to camp here for a while, Sanborn Park is a brilliant place for that.
Don't you try to stop me, cause I'm havin' a splendid time here at Lake McKenzie. There are other places here than Lake McKenzie, for example Howell Reservoir; you can run the rapids of San Lorenzo River. Lake McKenzie is generally a quite dried up place; of all the months in a year January is the one with the most rain, and July is when it's the driest. Through the summer at Lake McKenzie highs are generally in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 50's. High temperatures throughout the wintertime are normally in the 50's; through the dark hours in the winter at Lake McKenzie temperatures dip to the 30's.
You just can't envision the amount of outdoors fun things the Santa Cruz Mountains has to offer. Going for a hike along the Summit Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. Lakes? Sure, Lake Ranch Reservoir is in the vicinity. If you came to camp Saratoga Springs Campground is a brilliant spot to do that, and a splendid spot for whitewater paddling is San Lorenzo River.
This lake is one of the great places here in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

...nish for bend in the river), a pretty place to pull out for a picnic and some hiking, is part of Henry Cowell State Park and is the last chance to exit easily on public property before Santa Cruz. An old road goes up to a large parking area on Hwy 9 here.

Approach ing the Rincon the river spreads out and may be too shallow to float; we had to walk a short distance. Also, at the remains of a concrete diversion dam, teh river splits into two channels. The left-most is the one to take as the right will leave you high and not-quite-dry, though I suppose this may change from year to year.

Where the river goes around the Hogsback there is a lot of large woody debris, including a narrow area with strainers that could be quite dangerous. Recently the county has announced that woody debris will no longer be cleared from county streams in an effort to restore our nearly extinct steelhead populations, and this may make the situation even worse. I don't know whether it will be practical to portage around the woodpile at the point where the river make its final bend toward Paradise P...
