This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Pit River offers some wonderful whitewater, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop by close by Pit Four Reservoir. Good hiking is available along the Rough and Ready Trail; camping is available at Manzanita Lake Campground. You just should love the Southern Cascade Range. All through the summer highs here at Lake Margaret reach the 80's with night lows in the 40's.

| | Daytime highs through the winter are in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Lake Margaret. Going for a hike on the Pacific Crest Trail - section 17 is always a pleasant adventure, and at Lake Margaret you can distinguish Goose Mountain. This lake is one of the great places here in the Southern Cascade Range. Not sufficient hours in a day to enjoy this spot. If time allows, Lassen Volcanic National Park is a national park worth checking | |

out, and you can go for a hike on the Coal Mine Trail. Lake Margaret is a pretty wet place generally with a large amount of precipitation; during January this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is July. These mountains
rock, just look at all the exciting things to do in the Southern Cascade Range. Lakes are nice; Pit Four Reservoir is a lake that's near Lake Margaret, and a delightful site to camp here at Lake Margaret is Deep Creek Campground.

 | Roundtrip Distance 11.8 miles Elevation Gain 2,702 ft. This peak is trailless, meaning a portion or all of the route up the mountain is via an unmarked trail. For this particular mountain, the typical route is known as a ''herd path'' which is not much more than a worn, but unmarked trail. Some of the herd paths are easy to follow, others are not. In many instances the hiker will travel down a false herd path and eventually have to correct his/her course via backtracking. For these particular mountains, it is imperative that the hiker carry a compass (and know how to use it) and topographic map.... |
