Drift down the rapids of Yuba River - South Fork in a kayak; don't leave Ice Lakes without first going for a hike along the Heath Falls Overlook Trail. This lake is so wonderful. It's a great idea to stop at Upper Castle Creek, it's in the vicinity of Ice Lakes, and you can go for a hike on the Lola Montez Trail. You'll beyond doubt wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the cool stuff in       the Northern Sierra Nevada. Good hiking is available along the Long Valley Trail. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Ice Lakes has to offer, you can camp at Van Norden Campground. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Ice Lakes, you could also stop at charming Serena Lake; after a long day outdoors Holiday Inn Express Truckee, Ca is a great site to spend a night or two. There's so much to do here at Ice Lakes that you need to camp                  here for a while, Onion Creek Campground is a wonderful place for that, and the snow is fine at Boreal. This place, Ice Lakes, it just has so much outdoors entertaining stuff. Head up to Soda Springs and strap some skis to your feet, and do stop by Dulzura Lake, it's a beautiful lake. If you go for the outdoors you'll go for it here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Summit Valley is a brilliant site to spend some time at, and if you need a location to stay Plumpjack Squaw Valley Inn is a pleasant choice. Ice Lakes regularly gets a great deal of rainfall; January is when you get the most rain here while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Throughout the summer months, highs typically are in the 70's at Ice Lakes with overnight lows in the 50's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Ice Lakes. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Fordyce Creek.
