McConnell Lake is a magnificent lake near Highland Lake; you can have a delightful hiking adventure along the Red Peak Trail. During the days of summer here at Highland Lake, high temperatures regularly reach the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 40's. Throughout the winter highs are generally in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Highland Lake. So many cool things to       do in the Northern Sierra Nevada, not enough time. Lakes? Sure, Lake Zitella is close at hand, and going for a hike along the Highland Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. This lake is so wonderful. Hit the slopes at Alpine Meadows close by, and dry warm beds await you at Squaw Valley Lodge. Highland Lake gets a common amount of yearly precipitation; the month with most of the snow is January, and the driest of the months is                  July. There's no way someone can get bored here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Homewood has great slopes and a friendly staff; if you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on American River - South Fork. You feel that's enough? Just getting warmed up. While you're here at Highland Lake you can take a hike along the Loon Lake Trail, and Highland Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Wentworth Springs Campground is a good local campground. A great vista of charming McConnell Peak is available from Highland Lake, and Silver Creek - South Fork is a good whitewater spot close by. If you came to camp Pleasant Boat-In Campground is a nice place to do that, and after a long day outdoors Granlibakken Lodge and Conference Center is a great place to spend a night or two.
