Highland Lake is one of the lakes here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. But wait, there's more entertaining things to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada. You can run the rapids of American River - South Fork right next door to Highland Lake; you can go for a hike on the Red Peak Trail. Having a glorious time in the Northern Sierra Nevada is painless. Good hiking is available along the Highland Trail; you can stay the       night at Pleasant Boat-In Campground. Through the summer months at Highland Lake temperatures are ordinarily in the 70's; all through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's while Highland Lake night low temperatures during the winter are in the 10's. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Highland Lake; Loon Lake Trail is a good local trail, and a day on the slopes of Alpine Meadows is just what                  you need. The annual rainfall here at Highland Lake is about average; January is when you get the most snow here, and the driest month of the year is July.
