High Emigrant Lake

I went and was swarmed by literally thousands of mosquitoes. Says Hiker

High Emigrant Lake beyond doubt is in the middle of a lovely outdoors paradise. There is a fine hiking trail next to High Emigrant Lake called the Silver King Trail, and Grizzly Meadow is a fine site to stretch your legs a bit. On close by West Walker River you run into a category IV-V section of whitewater; the Leavitt Station Trailhead to Pickel Meadow segment is 2.3 miles long.
The Leavitt Station Trailhead to Pickel Meadow segment of West Walker River is suggested for experienced kayak paddlers solely. Whitewater kayaking and rafting could turn dangerous, so check the latest conditions previous to going.

High Emigrant Lake and the surrounding area is the most beautiful place I believe I have ever visited. I went in late July and there were still snow patches on the mountains. I swam in the lake and it was FREEZING, but refreshing as we stopped by the lake on day 3 out of 7 on our backpacking trip. It is difficult to get to this lake, but it is worth it. I will go back one day. I would live there if I could. The surrounding lakes are nice too. Its a very calming atmosphere on a nice day and there are basically no mosquitoes which is a BIG plus! It is a beautiful place. Go there! - Jill P.
