The Southern Sierra Nevada scenery is always beautiful. High temperatures at Hidden Lake through the warm months are in the 90's, and the nighttime is quite colder of course, frequently in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 50's with temperatures at Hidden Lake dipping down into the 30's during winter nights. This lake is so wonderful. If the weather is magnificent here at Hidden Lake, you can go for a hike along the Atwell Hockett Trail.

Drift down the rapids of Kaweah River - Middle Fork in a kayak, and since you're here, you could also have a look at charming Twin Lakes. Going for a hike along the Hockett Meadows Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region; Frog Lakes is a nearby lake that you could stop at. Now, you may imagine that's a heap but there's even more entertaining stuff to do here at Hidden Lake. Get dripping wet paddling on Kern River, and Cyclone Meadow is a fine
               place to check out.
So much fun stuff in the Southern Sierra Nevada, just striking. If time allows, Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park is a national park worth checking out, and Hidden Falls Campground is a delightful local campground. The yearly precipitation here at Hidden Lake is about average; most of the rain falls during January while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Life's too short to enjoy all the enjoyable stuff in the Southern Sierra Nevada. The Sawtooth Pass Trail is a great hiking trail near Hidden Lake; on a beautiful day you get a delightful panorama of Quinn Peak from Hidden Lake.
This lake is so wonderful. A journey to Windy Gap is always fun; Hidden Lake is a pleasant place to visit for more than one day, Moses Gulch Campground is a pleasant place to camp nearby.

Camp Wishon Campground
The swimming hole is the main attraction! Ive been twice now and love it! getting a spot next to this piece of heaven is a little tough I hear. waterfalls and natural made waterslides and cliff jumping all in one spot make camp wishon the spot to be....my family has been going to camp wishon since the 1920's we stopped going about 10 years ago. we love the swimmin hole and used to like walking up to the soda spring thru doyles. (now they make you walk arround and wont let you go to the big pool by the soda spring)anyways we had 4 generations of fun here...

Belknap Campground
...autiful campground, a rare opportunity to camp at the base of ancient redwood trees that tower 100's of feet above the campground. The main activity is hiking the Summit Trail (10 miles, round trip) to Quaking Aspen. This takes you through one of the larger of the last remaining Giant Sequoia Groves that make this area famous. The Tule River, which runs through the camp ground, is stocked with rainbow trout during the summer months, making fishing a very popular visitor activity. A quaint general store, bar and restaurant is available about 1 mile away in charming Camp Nelson. During winter months, hwy 190 is closed about 9 miles beyond Camp Nelson at Ponderosa. Winter recreationists enjoy this area for the snow mobiling, x-country skiing, and snow shoeing opportunities. Belknap is open year-round, but winter brings storms and sub-freezing conditions. The road to the campground is not always plowed. Rooms are available at the Camp Nelson Lodge (www.campnelsonlodge.com) and at nearby Pierpoint Springs Resort (www.pierpointsprings.com). Cabin rentals available at http://www.s...

Peppermint Campground

Spent 3 nights at the pepermint campsite, very primitive great hike along the river that goes through camp. Not far from Dome rock spectacular view of valley ( not central valley)...

Lower Peppermint Campground
15 miles away
Awesome location. Beautiful campgrounds with plenty of space and fire pits. Many trails to hike with waterfalls and slides. We stayed at campground six, before the private ranch and we found a lot of campsites with good firepits. We fished, but didn't catch anything. One thing about the grounds is that there was a lot of trash. It's obvious that people don't pack out!! Please people keep this area clean!!...

Moose Lake
16 miles away
This is a picture I took of Moose Lake on a lengthy loop hike in the Sequoias taking the Lakes trail past Heather, Astor, Emerald, and Pear Lakes; then cross country over the divide above Moose Lake where I took this photograph looking down on the lake. I then returned to the trailhead by going southwest over the divide down to the Alta Trail through Panther Gap back to the Lakes trailhead. A very long day hike. I took pictures along the entire route....

Leavis Flat - Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park
19 miles away
Leavis Flat- I loved it! Small campground, right next to Deer Creek, only 9 sites. You can buy ice and extra necessities just up the road at the California Hot Springs (resort?) No cell phone service, ranger comes by once a day, it's very mellow. You are roughing it unless you bring an RV. No showers or flush toilets. So beautiful. We were there for Memorial Wknd. Some locals said it's usually pretty empty but the campground was full for our trip. I've heard they might shut it down. Maybe it's not bringing in enough cash for the upkeep. I bathed in the creek. My boyfriend wasn't so brave, too cold for him. If you're planning on doing the sights at the Sequoia National Park, it's a two hour drive to Morro Rock to give you an idea. The creek is so pretty and the water is drinkable, not deep enough to swim but perfect to cool off. The mosquitoes weren't too bad and with the right company, it's the perfect setting to get totally away! My boyfriend has all the pics on his phone, but I'll come back and post them....
