There is a great hiking trail near Gumboot Lake called the Echo Lake Trail, as expected you could also pop by Upper Gumboot Lake since you're here; it's not far at all. Gumboot Lake is pretty dried out generally; December is the month that gets the most rain; July is the month with the least moisture. Camping is available at Castle Lake Campground; the snow is great at Mount Shasta. This lake is so wonderful.
