You get a great view of McConnell Peak from Forni Lake, and soar down the rapids of American River - South Fork in a kayak. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a spot to stay Granlibakken Lodge and Conference Center is a good choice; a nice close by hotel is Squaw Valley Lodge. Man, is there plenty of cool things to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada.       Good hiking is available along the Red Peak Trail, and if you've had enough of Forni Lake, Shadow Lake is nearby. Forni Lake is one of the lakes here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. This lake is so wonderful. There's tremendous hiking along the Loon Lake Trail; you can stay the night at Pleasant Boat-In Campground. Forni Lake is a good site of typical rain; during the month of January you get the most snow around here, and the driest month of the year is                  July. You absolutely should like the Northern Sierra Nevada. You're perhaps interested in lakes, Highland Lake is one of those close by, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Homewood. That right there is heaps already, but it keeps on going; Forni Lake has it all. Head up to Alpine Meadows and strap some skis to your feet. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Forni Lake has to offer, you can camp at Wentworth Springs Campground. Throughout the summer months at Forni Lake highs are frequently in the 70's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 40's.
