There is a good hiking trail in the vicinity of Elks Lake called the Dry Creek Trail, and as expected East Dry Creek is a gorgeous stream that is worth checking out. Elks Lake regularly gets a large amount of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is commonly January, that's the one that rains the most, and July on the other hand is the driest.
