During the summer months at El Capitan Lake highs are regularly in the 80's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. For the duration of the winter highs are commonly in the 60's with temperatures at El Capitan Lake dipping down into the 40's throughout winter nights. And if that's not sufficient there's a lot more cool things to do in the Santa Rosa Mountains. Good hiking is available       along the Horsethief Ridge Trail, and an exciting thing to pop by near El Capitan Lake is El Capitan Dam. El Capitan Lake is located in the Santa Rosa Mountains. Now, you may feel that's lots but there's even more exciting things to do here in the Santa Rosa Mountains. A golf course next to El Capitan Lake is Barona Creek Golf Club, and why not camp at Oak Creek RV Park if you're here at El Capitan Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Hiking is a popular thing                  to do around El Capitan Lake; Middle Peak Loop Trail is a wonderful local trail, and there's some flowing water nearby, Chocolate Creek is a stream you can stop by while here. El Capitan Lake is mostly a rather dried out site; March is the month that gets the most rain; July on the other hand is the driest. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Monument Trail, and this is a popular place for folks from San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos. A great close by hotel is Ayres Inn Alpine; El Cajon Mountain is easy to spot from El Capitan Lake. What a spot this is for outdoors folks. San Vicente Resort is a glorious location to get some rest, and if you came for an overnight stay Country Creek RV Resort is a brilliant spot to camp. This lake is so wonderful.
