Creek while you're here. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, American River - South Fork offers some pleasant whitewater, and there's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at close by Alpine Meadows. Dry
Lakes is one of the lakes here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. The Rubicon Trail offers hiking at its best, and after a long day outdoors Squaw Valley Lodge is a glorious place to spend a night or two. Camping at Hell Hole-In Campground
is always a great experience, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Rubicon River. At Dry Lakes through the long summer days highs are in the 80's. Summer overnight lows plunge down to
the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Dry Lakes. If you need a place to stay Plumpjack Squaw Valley Inn is a tremendous choice. The high level of precipitation
makes Dry Lakes a quite wet site; the month of January is the wettest with most of the rain, and July is the month with the least moisture.

Pearl Lake
11 miles away Pearl Lake is the most beautiful, ittle lake you could ever camp or fish at. When you park your vehicle at Wrights Lake and hike past Beauty towards Pearl, you will have officially crossed into Desloation Wilderness...and God's country!...
Rubicon River
| 12 miles away The streaming Rubicon River just northeast of Eleven Pines Road. The river serves as a border between Placer and El Dorado counties, and offers challenging whitewater rafting opportunities for experienced paddlers. This is a woodland area approximately 15 miles south of the Hell Hole Reservoir. This is a truly memorable area to spend the day hiking and exploring the area?s lush vegetation and small waterfalls. Lake Number Three
12 miles away Lake #3 lies a couple of miles inside the Desolation Wilderness Boundary. Upon arrival, you find yourself along a lake which is beautifully cradled against the Crystal mountain range. On a clear day, you can see well into the Sacramento Valley and beyond. Clear days in the valley are few and far between in the summer though. Absolutely beautiful destination for a hike....
Bridal Veil Campground
13 miles away WHEN does Bridal Veil open?...
Stumpy Meadows Lake
14 miles away Do not go to Stumpy Meadows. You will not like the horrible screech of the osprey and eagle as they swoop down to steal our fish, nor will you appreciate the lack of television or telephone reception. Naw, go to the river, and I will see if I can scare off those pesky birds with my patented `stare from afar'. I will let you all know when it is again safe to drive up here......
Onion Creek Campground
15 miles away You cannot get close to this campground in January under 10+ feet of snow. Sure its 3.5 miles from Ice Lakes Lodge on a bumpy dirt road, getting to some of the other spots they mentioned would be quite a trek especially if not in a 4x4 or dirt bike. Very rugged terrain....
Grouse Lake
16 miles away Great hiking, the trail starts at Wrights Lake, which is a beautiful lake in its own right, and heads up. If your looking for a good walking trail I would suggest staying on the Wrights Lake ''loop'' trail that circles the lake. But if you want a good hiking/climbing trail the Grouse Lake hike is the one for you. Even in late August the wild flowers were still in bloom and when you reach the top you cannot ask for better views of the surrounding area. From certain points in the trail you can see Ice House Lake as well as looking down on Wrights Lake. I am a bit on the older side so I stop and rest 3-4 times on the way up and it took me a little over 2 hours to reach the top, the last 10-15 minutes were rather steep, but well worth it. There are 2 more lakes beyond Grouse Lake that are an easy walk....
Nancy Lake
16 miles away Can anyone tell me the origin of the name of this lake, Nancy Lake located near Kingvale, CA.. A lovely little lake about 2 miles from Troy and I-80....
Salmon Lake
17 miles away An easy hike from the trail near Hyusink lake. Typically very few hikers/campers at this lake (nice!). A stunning view from the high rocks Southwest of the lake itself. I don't have a paicture to upload, but imagine massive granite outcropping, Juniper and evergreens, a small intimate mountain lake, and you are there! ...
