If you are traveling by, why not stop by The Dry Lake. This lake is so wonderful. A lake close by is Milpitas Reservoir. The Dry Lake is located in the Santa Lucia Range. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at The Dry Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Lower Piney Creek Campground is a delightful site for that; Basin Creek is in the neighborhood of The Dry Lake and is always a diversion to take a look at.
It is very waterless

here at The Dry Lake commonly; of all the months in a year January is the one with the most rain; the driest of the months is July. So many fun things to do in the Santa Lucia Range, not enough time. You'll need more than a day to explore everything The Dry Lake has to offer, you can camp at Miller's Lodge, and don't leave The Dry Lake without first going for a hike along the Marble Peak Trail. Don't stop me now, cause I'm havin' a pleasant time here at The
Dry Lake. Go for a hike on the Horse Pasture Trail, and if you need a spot to stay Valley Harvest Inn is a glorious choice.
There's no way anybody can get bored here in the Santa Lucia Range. If you get bored of The Dry Lake, you could also take a look at nearby The Lakes, and lots of people from Salinas come here. Since you're here at The Dry Lake why not visit Horse Canyon; Ventana Inn Big Sur is a brilliant place to get some rest. High temperatures at The Dry Lake through the summer months are in the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 60's while the cold winter nights at The Dry Lake are in the 30's.
Good hiking is available along the Hot Springs Trail, and float down the rapids of Arroyo Seco River in a kayak.

Chalone Peak Trail
19 miles away
(...) Chalone Peak Trail leads from Bear Gulch reservoir (close to Bear Gulch picnic area) to Chalone peaks (first North Peak, then South Peak). Neither peak is accessible by an automobile, which means that nobody can ''pick you up'' there, unless they do it in a helicopter. In reality Chalone Peak trail has only one accessible trailhead, which means that it has to be trekked both ways in any case....
