A visit to Dry Lake is always a good idea. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Dry Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Carson River Resort is a delightful place for that, and the skiing at Kirkwood is great. All through the summertime, highs regularly are in the 70's at Dry Lake; all through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Dry Lake dipping
down into the 20's all through winter nights.
Just can't get enough of the Northern Sierra Nevada. If you came to camp Markleeville Campground is a tremendous place to do that, and there are other places here than Dry Lake, for example Indian Creek Reservoir. Dry Lake gets very little rain; January is the wettest month with most rain, and July is when it's the driest. Having a good time at Dry Lake is simple. There's great hiking along the Charity Valley

Trail, and since you're here you will meet lots of people from nearby Gardnerville Ranchos.
The Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is always beautiful. There are glorious sites to discover along the Pacific Crest Trail - section 13, and nearby Little Cottonwood Canyon is a good site to go. This lake is so wonderful. If you come at the right time of year, Carson River - East Fork offers some glorious whitewater, and lakes are such peaceful spots, why not visit Curtz Lake.
Dry warm beds await you at Best Western Topaz Lake Inn; don't leave Dry Lake without first going for a hike along the Burnside Lake Trail. And that's not all the things you can do here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. A day on the slopes of Heavenly is just what you need, and if you need a place to stay Super 8 Gardnerville is a tremendous choice.

...e recreation and entertainment options than any other winter resort destination vying for your attention, you've got plenty of decisions to make.

Do you ski California or Nevada? Do you want jaw-dropping views of incredibly-blue Lake Tahoe, or the stark contrast of the high Nevada desert below? Will it be 34 miles of wide-open, groomed cruisers, 1,600-foot plunges in the double-black canyons or the most outrageous tree skiing in North America? Is it the 80-foot jumps in High Roller Terrain Park, or a thrill ride on the 3,300-foot-long Heavenly Flyer, the longest zip line in the continental U. S. ?

And when the sun goes down, there's a veritable Pandora's Box of choices and temptations. On-mountain exhilaration yields to après ecstasy in the form of Vegas-style action, all-night dance clubs, world-class entertainment and five-star dining.

So what do you choose? Mother Nature? Lady Luck? Or something in between?

Heavenly will test your decision-making like no other winter destination- choose wisely. There are only so many hours in a day … and night. Make...

Clark Fork Campground
18 miles away
The Clark Fork Campground has a number of nice sites. Most of the campers have trailers or RVs. The campground has pit toilets that are clean and relatively pleasant. There is a shower facility--bring plenty of quarters for your shower. The fishing in the Clark Fork River is good. The Forest Service plants trout every week. There are plenty of nice side creeks such as Cloudburst and Arnot that are good fishing too. The hike up the trail along the upper Clark Fork to the waterfall is a very nice hike. You will enjoy Clark Fork campground. My family for three generations and over 50 years has been camping here....

Round Lake
19 miles away
This small ''round'' lake is the beginning of the ''Upper Truckee River'' which flows into Lake Tahoe, and the outflow is known simply as the ''Truckee River'' which ends up flowing into Pyramid Lake, in Nevada. Compared to further south in the Sierra Nevada range the local scenery is not as majestic but is indeed pretty, easy to hike and unlike very high altitude locations, offers better campsites. The lake contains one species of trout, the Lahontan Cutthroat. Back in the early 1970's I managed to catch and release a couple dozen specimens weighing between one and two pounds. The fish are classically well-marked and the flesh is a pronounced pink. I have found over several trips that the lake fish are harder to catch than the fish in the outflow canyon. ...
