SeaJohnhike:
To get to Dorothy Lake in the north part of Yosemite is a HIKE… Would take a good long day to get there, if I started before sunrise and Leavitt trail head on Sonora Pass (108).

a hike along the Early Emigrant and Indian Trail, and while you're here, you could also take a look at pretty Stella Lake.
Now, you may assume that's plenty but there's even more entertaining things to do here in the Central Sierra Nevada. Paddling on Tuolumne River is so much fun, and close by you discover the Ten Lakes Trail which is a delightful hiking trail. West Walker River has a glorious whitewater paddling spot nearby, and a good location to camp here

Forsyth Peak is a peak you can catch a glimpse of from Dorothy Lake, and the Pacific Crest Trail - section 12 is a great hiking trail close by. And if that's not enough there's a load more enjoyable things to do in the Central Sierra Nevada. Summit Meadow is a fine spot here at Dorothy Lake; camping is available at Sonora Bridge Campground. It is very dehydrated here at Dorothy Lake frequently; January is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest of the months is July.
The Central Sierra Nevada scenery is always beautiful.

High Emigrant Lake
1 PHOTO
I went and was swarmed by literally thousands of mosquitoes....
High Emigrant Lake and the surrounding area is the most beautiful place I believe I have ever visited. I went in late July and there were still snow patches on the mountains. I swam in the lake and it was FREEZING, but refreshing as we stopped by the lake on day 3 out of 7 on our backpacking trip. It is difficult to get to this lake, but it is worth it. I will go back one day. I would live there if I could. The surrounding lakes are nice too. Its a very calming atmosphere on a nice day and there are basically no mosquitoes which is a BIG plus! It is a beautiful place. Go there!...

Leavitt Lake
I spent many a fishing trip at Leavitt Lake. Once everyone got over altitude sickness the fishing was great. Water and the sky clear and blue. Walked in one late winter. It was a challange but worth the adventure. The kids never failed to catch limits and we all enjoyed sharing with the few people who ventured up the hill to fish. Even saw a bear or two off and on. I will have to dig out some pictures and post them.......r float tubes. Boat wise I would stick with a non powered vessel such as a canoe, or lightweight car topper. No launching, by hand only.

Absolutely gorgeous country. Don't forget to pack the camera. Pacific Crest Trail access nearby, so plenty of hiking available. Didn't see any bears or much wildlife to speak of...nice & quiet & pristine. A real getaway from it all.

I haven't yet, but hope to do eventual hikes to surrounding areas. Should have access & prime vistas of the Emigrant Wilderness back country via the PCT on the western edge of the crest.

Call ahead to the Bridgeport Ranger Station to make sure the road in is open. With all the snow we had this past season the latest I heard would be late July at the earliest. About a 3+ mile ride in from Hwy. 108. Take your time, plenty of ruts in the road.

I have pictures if this site would like to accomodate such. My email address for more info: fishsur5l@yahoo.com

Enjoy & happy trails!!

Could someone tell me ''where'' PCT crosses Hwy 4 Ebbetts Pass? Also, Hwy 108 Sonora Pass and Hwy 120 Tioga Pass? I need to drop food for some hikers. Thank you....

Meadowcliff Lodge & RV Resort

... RV Resort consists of 34 sites, a combination of pull-thru and back-in sites (no tent camping) all with views of the magnificent cliffs located behind the resort. All sites are full service spacious sites and each have electricity, sewer, water, cable TV and Wi-Fi.

Each pull-thru site even has double sewer for easier connection by Motor homes or 5th wheels. Sites range in size from 25-30 feet in width and 40-68 feet in depth. Sites are graveled which allow for easy in and out access. Large 12-14 trees populate each site along with a picnic table.

The new bathhouse was built for use by RV’ers. There are four private baths each with its own shower, sink and toilet. There is also a laundry room with coin-operated washers and dryers and for the RV groups that want a place to have a pot-luck or to play cards, there is even a clubhouse.

Glenberry Lake
17 miles away
Going to backpack up to it in two weeks. Will add more comments on it once we get there. Information says brook trout can be caught there. You can also catch brook trout in cattle creek along the way....Backpacked up cattle creek and tried to make it to Glenberry lake, however my friend and I didn't allow enough time to get their. We plan on next year making it to the lake and setting up camp....

Clark Fork Campground
18 miles away
The Clark Fork Campground has a number of nice sites. Most of the campers have trailers or RVs. The campground has pit toilets that are clean and relatively pleasant. There is a shower facility--bring plenty of quarters for your shower. The fishing in the Clark Fork River is good. The Forest Service plants trout every week. There are plenty of nice side creeks such as Cloudburst and Arnot that are good fishing too. The hike up the trail along the upper Clark Fork to the waterfall is a very nice hike. You will enjoy Clark Fork campground. My family for three generations and over 50 years has been camping here....

Doc and Al's Robinson Creek Resort
19 miles away
My family and I have been going to Doc and Al's for the past 18 years and love it! You'll find stories like this of families coming back the same week every year for decades is not uncommon here. It's a great place for young and old, couples and families. If you're looking for a nice place to relax and enjoy the outdoors, this is definitely the place! I grew up with vacations along Robinson Creek and on the shores of Twin Lakes, and I plan on taking my kids someday. If you're considering a trip up here, I definitely recommend it!...

Dodge Ridge
24 miles away
Dodge Ridge is a great place for families and beginner skiers! You can't lose your kids like you can at the bigger resorts. They have a great all-day ski school program. They recently put in a new lodge, now all they need is some snow-making equipment....Dodge Ridge takes great pride in their reputation as a family-friendly destination and the new spacious Family Lodge that opened last season was designed with your family in mind. Inside, you will find an expanded Children's Snowsports Center, full service Ticketing & Guest Services Center, fully-equipped day-use locker rooms, and a cozy bistro. With an improved rental center comes new top-of-the-line rental equipment from Elan, Dalbello, and Rossignol. To further enhance your tree skiing experience, Dodge Ridge spent the summer removing boulders, stumps, and scrub brush from some of our featured runs. Parking at Dodge Ridge has been improved as well by repaving and expanding our preferred parking lot with room for more than 100 vehicles....

Badger Pass
28 miles away
Badger Pass is the perfect place to learn to ski or snowboard. It has a really long bunny slope, and all the other trails are pretty easy too. The problem is that once you know how to ski without a V-shape thingy the place has little to offer. The staff is very friendly though....
