Throughout the summer months highs here at Desolation Lake reach the 70's while nighttime lows are regularly in the 40's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 40's with temperatures at Desolation Lake dipping down into the 20's during winter nights. You believe that's enough? Just getting warmed up. If you need a site to stay Days Inn Bishop is a good choice, and camping at Sabrina Campground is always a great experience. Now, you may

| | believe that's a heap but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here in the Central Sierra Nevada. Desolation Lake is right by the Kings River Trail, and a spree to Humphreys Basin revives the soul. At Desolation Lake you don’t see much rain; January is the month that gets the most rain; June is when it's the driest. Take a hike on the John Muir Trail - Pacific Crest Section, and you'll come across a lovely lake called Lower Desolation Lake. This lake is | |

so wonderful. One of the overriding traits of the surroundings of Desolation Lake is Four Gables, and whitewater paddling is delightful on San Joaquin River - South Fork. This lake is so wonderful. Paddling on Kings River - Middle
Fork is so much fun. And if that's not enough there's loads more amusing things to do in the Central Sierra Nevada. If you came to camp North Lake Campground is a great site to do that, and Carol Col is a wonderful place to stop at.
This lake is located in the wonderful Central Sierra Nevada. A beautiful lake like Wedge Lake in close proximity to Desolation Lake is a glorious site to pop by; Devils Postpile National Monument is a magnificent local destination.

North Lake Campground
I have never seen it in the 90's in summer (way to high for those temps), and I am sure it is a heck of lot colder than 50's in the winter...

Sabrina Campground
I have such fond memories of family trips to Sabrina and camping just up from the lake on the stream side. Don't know what the campground name was or even if it had a name back in thoes days. It was every summer in 1960's. First went there when I was a baby. My parents packed back in several times. Anyway, my Dad died a few months ago and he always said he wanted to go back before he died. I like to think that he is there somewhere fishing that stream by the campground that we all loved so much. Fond Fond memories....
Big Trees Campground
The only way to drop a kayak in Kings river is a very long drive (maybe 4-5 hours) to the west side or the range, or lugging it through the wilderness (over the spine). I think I would have to give a gold medal to anyone who would lug a kayak from Big Trees to Kings river. Just a heads-up....
Bear Twin Lakes
13 miles away Great place to visit! A must see for all families and tourists! The awe and marvel at the beauty of the lake is indescribable! My family had an awsome experience and Joey, Anisa, and Diana ( my children) all would love to go back! Bear Twin Lakes is not a place to miss! Just watch out for the occasional black bear!...

Jackass's Meadows Campground
17 miles away I've been to the campground and it is a great area; however, it is NOT an arid environment as the description says.? It is located at over 7000 feet in a forested area.? In addition, there is NO access to Devils Postpile (or the Mammoth area, as is implied by the lodging links). The campground is located at the end of the road and there is no road pass over the Sierra anywhere in this area. This campground is seasonal and is snowed in completely in the winter. ...
