Summer brings highs in the 70's to Desolation Lake, and during the night it cools down to the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's while the cold winter nights at Desolation Lake are in the 20's. This lake is so wonderful. Humphreys Basin is a pretty location any time of year; a great spot for whitewater paddling is Kings River - Middle Fork. Just can't get enough of the Central Sierra Nevada. If       you get bored of Desolation Lake, you could also check out close by Blanc Lake, and a pleasant place to camp here at Desolation Lake is Sabrina Campground. All the outdoors cool stuff close to Desolation Lake will keep you coming back many times. You might want to pay a visit to Carol Col since you're here at Desolation Lake, and on a splendid day you can take a hike along the Kings River Trail. The Central Sierra Nevada scenery is always beautiful. Not                  much precipitation falls here at Desolation Lake; January is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month is June. And if that's not sufficient there's a load more amusing things to do in the Central Sierra Nevada. You can run the rapids of San Joaquin River - South Fork close to Desolation Lake; the John Muir Trail - Pacific Crest Section is a brilliant hiking trail nearby. This lake is so wonderful. Devils Postpile National Monument is a nice national park, and after a long day outdoors Bishop-Days Inn is a great site to spend a night or two.
