One of the best things about Desolation Lake is its proximity to Baldwin Beach, and everyone close by loves skiing at Sierra at Tahoe. Desolation Lake is a beautiful lake in the Northern Sierra Nevada. And that's not everything there is to do here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Good hiking is available along the Hawley Grade Trail, and after a long day outdoors The Meadow is a great site to spend a night or two. Lakes? Sure,       Frata Lake is in close proximity; if you're going to from Gardnerville Ranchos, you won't be the only one. If you don’t have a problem getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on American River - South Fork; the General Creek Trail offers hiking at its best. Yep, outdoors fun things to do are truly bountiful here at Desolation Lake. There's fine hiking along the Windmiller Trail, and a perfect close by hotel is Pine Cone Acre Motel. So many                  entertaining things in the Northern Sierra Nevada, just impressive. Desolation Valley is a perfect place to check out; Channel Lake is a good lake nearby. You absolutely have to have a thing about Desolation Lake. The slopes of Kirkwood are so inviting nobody can resist. There's so much to do here at Desolation Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Fortyfive Mile Campground is a splendid place for that. The yearly precipitation here at Desolation Lake is about average; the month with most of the snow is January, and the driest month is July. Just can't get enough of the Northern Sierra Nevada. The peak of Cracked Crag can be seen from Desolation Lake. Horsetail Falls is an inspiring place to take a look at while you're here; Silver Creek - South Fork has a great whitewater paddling spot nearby. This lake is so wonderful. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Desolation Lake has to offer, you can camp at Sayles Flat Campground; you can spend the day on the beach at Kiva Beach. Summertime highs at Desolation Lake typically tend to be in the 70's. During the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 40's.
