Throughout the moonlight hours it's typically in the 40's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 40's; during the dark hours in the winter at Dark Lake temperatures descend to the 10's. The Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is always beautiful. And if that's not sufficient there's a lot more entertaining things to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Lakes       are great; Beauty Lake is a lake that's near Dark Lake; why not take a refreshing hike along the Red Peak Trail. There's so much to do here at Dark Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Eagle Rock Campground is a good site for that, and dry warm beds await you at Meadowstone. Any time is a magnificent time at Dark Lake if you love the outdoors. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always check out nearby Wrights Lake; Dark Lake is right                  by the Highland Trail. This lake is so wonderful. The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Sierra at Tahoe, and drift down the rapids of Silver Creek - South Fork in a kayak. This lake is so wonderful. Fourth of July Flat is a glorious site here at Dark Lake; the snow is pleasant at Homewood. Just can't get enough of the Northern Sierra Nevada. If you came to camp Thirty-nine Mile Campground is a great place to do that; the Windmiller Trail offers hiking at its best. Get wet paddling on American River - South Fork, and The Meadow is a splendid place to get some rest.
