So many enjoyable things to do at Colby Lake, so little time. Near Colby Lake you stumble on Colby Pass which is a fine place to have a look at, and while you're here, you could stop by Table Creek. An average amount of precipitation falls at Colby Lake; during the month of January you get the most rain around here, and July on the other hand is the driest. But wait, there's more amusing things to do in the Southern Sierra Nevada. If you haven’t been to Sequoia
& Kings Canyon National Park, you ought to schedule some time for it while you're here, and Colby Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Cold Spring Campground is a good local campground.
Hiking is a popular thing to do around Colby Lake; High Sierra Trail is a delightful local trail, and Milestone Bowl is a splendid location to check out. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Southern Sierra Nevada. You get a magnificent view of Centennial Peak

from Colby Lake; whitewater paddling is glorious on Kern River. This lake is one of the great places here in the Southern Sierra Nevada.
This lake is so wonderful. There's tremendous hiking along the Sawtooth Pass Trail, and camping at Moraine Campground is always a nice experience. During the months of summer at Colby Lake temperatures are generally in the 70's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Colby Lake. This lake is so wonderful. This is a splendid neighborhood for people who like lakes. Glacier Lake is a lake in the neighborhood.
Good hiking is available along the Pacific Crest Trail - section 11, and in all probability you're looking for close by lakes? Sure, Talus Lake is just a very short distance away.

Moose Lake
This is a picture I took of Moose Lake on a lengthy loop hike in the Sequoias taking the Lakes trail past Heather, Astor, Emerald, and Pear Lakes; then cross country over the divide above Moose Lake where I took this photograph looking down on the lake. I then returned to the trailhead by going southwest over the divide down to the Alta Trail through Panther Gap back to the Lakes trailhead. A very long day hike. I took pictures along the entire route....

Leavis Flat - Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park
16 miles away
Leavis Flat- I loved it! Small campground, right next to Deer Creek, only 9 sites. You can buy ice and extra necessities just up the road at the California Hot Springs (resort?) No cell phone service, ranger comes by once a day, it's very mellow. You are roughing it unless you bring an RV. No showers or flush toilets. So beautiful. We were there for Memorial Wknd. Some locals said it's usually pretty empty but the campground was full for our trip. I've heard they might shut it down. Maybe it's not bringing in enough cash for the upkeep. I bathed in the creek. My boyfriend wasn't so brave, too cold for him. If you're planning on doing the sights at the Sequoia National Park, it's a two hour drive to Morro Rock to give you an idea. The creek is so pretty and the water is drinkable, not deep enough to swim but perfect to cool off. The mosquitoes weren't too bad and with the right company, it's the perfect setting to get totally away! My boyfriend has all the pics on his phone, but I'll come back and post them....
