Brad & Lynn Becker:
Went there 8/29/09.

Found it on the Stanislaus Nat'l Forest map. No trail on the map for Burgson Lake, however, we did find a well worn footpath down to the lake. There were boy scouts there and also a forest service crew disassembling fire rings. The swimming was okay, but we're pretty sure there might have been leaches. We hiked in from the Wheat's Meadow Trail. It was about six miles round trip. On a scale of 1 to 5, we rate this hike a 3. 5 for difficulty. Enjoyed the hike. It's a nice trail through rugged terrain.

Oh this lake is on the maps, just doesn't have a trail to it. I came in on my horse from the Wheats Meadow side. Wow! What a long granite climb down into it, but well worth it as no one knows it's there. I've even asked some of the old timers up here where I live, and they've never heard of it. - Cowpony01

Great little lake if you know how and where to find it. It's not on any map I know of. Oh and they forgot to mention the 2+ mile hike!

Bears. Lots of bears. Lots of bears who are not afraid of people. I wouldn't clean your catch right there in camp.......

Utica Reservoir

First Canoe trip here back in 1992. Last trip 4th of July 2006. Great lake to kayak.  Last Trip many kayakers.   The road is car accessible but rough in spots.  Campers at boat launch (hand launch only) are often a drunken rowdy group.  Bear warnings now posted but not back in the 1990's. Good fishing.   Lake feeds to Union below.  Do not expect fish there.  DFG is not stocking in 2009.  Lake is lowered most years for power generation. Several  Islands to camp on.  Short off trail hike to Elephant Rock and Summit lakes for die hard trail blazers.  Not far from Spicer Meadows.  Mid week non holidays expect minimal use. ...

Herring Creek Reservoir

This lake is the good trout fishing all the time. Try power bait or a worm and a marshmellow green or yellow....
Beautiful! That is all that needs to be said! No photo shop to this picture this is all natural. Taken 2007 mid summer....

Wheeler Lake
This is such a beautiful lake and a great hike. We hit it at the peak wildflower time for the yellow mule ears as far as you could see leaving from the woodchuck trailhead. Had the whole lake to ourselves all afternoon. Perfect for a swim too....

Dodge Ridge
Dodge Ridge is a great place for families and beginner skiers! You can't lose your kids like you can at the bigger resorts. They have a great all-day ski school program. They recently put in a new lodge, now all they need is some snow-making equipment....Dodge Ridge takes great pride in their reputation as a family-friendly destination and the new spacious Family Lodge that opened last season was designed with your family in mind. Inside, you will find an expanded Children's Snowsports Center, full service Ticketing & Guest Services Center, fully-equipped day-use locker rooms, and a cozy bistro. Guests will also enjoy our newly remodeled rental center. The rental center features improved guest flow, which makes renting your equipment quick, easy, and will have you on the slopes in minutes. With an improved rental center comes new top-of-the-line rental equipment from Elan, Dalbello, and Rossignol. To further enhance your tree skiing experience, Dodge Ridge spent the summer removing boulders, stumps, and scrub brush from some of our featured runs. Parking at Dodge Ridge has been improved as well by repaving and expanding our preferred parking lot with room for more than 100 vehicles....

Sand Flat Campground
Went there for the first time. It's definitely on the 'go back again' list. The road down is pretty rough. My explorer handled it with zero problem. I ran it in 2wd mode on the way back up just to make sure that a normal car could make it. The key to the road, known to the locals as 'Wolfboro road' is to take it very slow. Shift into low, and just let gravity lead you into camp. When I went, there were 2 'crossings' where you had to go into water. The water is not deep, just don't go plowing through and you'll be fine. On my way out, I was met with a Mitsubishi sedan making his way down. He was doing fine, although he was having to keep his speeds below 5mph...

Clark Fork Campground
10 miles away
The Clark Fork Campground has a number of nice sites. Most of the campers have trailers or RVs. The campground has pit toilets that are clean and relatively pleasant. There is a shower facility--bring plenty of quarters for your shower. The fishing in the Clark Fork River is good. The Forest Service plants trout every week. There are plenty of nice side creeks such as Cloudburst and Arnot that are good fishing too. The hike up the trail along the upper Clark Fork to the waterfall is a very nice hike. You will enjoy Clark Fork campground. My family for three generations and over 50 years has been camping here....

Salt Springs Reservoir
19 miles away
I went to Salt Spring years ago, launched my boat, and boat camped and fished for a few days. I planned the same trip yesterday. We went in when still dark down a narrow 18 mile road from HWY 88. When we got to the dam, we found that the boat ramp was closed to trail launching. There is a small sign that says so near Hwy 88, but its real easy to miss. We read up on Salt Springs in several publications. Nowhere did it mention no boat launching!!! The ramp is still there, but blocked off. I wish PG&E would fix that!...
