This lake is so wonderful. Get your heart pumping on the delightful whitewater of American River - South Fork, and close by you hit upon the Loon Lake Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail. You could also pop by Fawn Lake if you're here at Buck Island Lake; it's nearby, and if you came for an overnight stay Pleasant Boat-In Campground is a great place to camp. | | most of the snow is January, and the driest of the months is July. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Northern Sierra Nevada. Dry warm beds await you at Village at Squaw Valley, and Alpine Meadows has nice slopes and a friendly staff. Summertime highs at Buck Island Lake frequently tend to be in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Buck Island Lake. | |

Really wonderful skiing awaits you at Homewood, and Squaw Valley Lodge is a pleasant place to get some rest. All the outdoors amusing stuff in the Northern Sierra Nevada will keep you coming back many times. Miller Creek is one
of the streams nearby that might be worth checking out; don't leave Buck Island Lake without first paying a visit to Rubicon Springs. Wentworth Springs Campground is a splendid local campground. This lake is so wonderful. The Red
Peak Trail is a nice hiking trail near Buck Island Lake, and there's whitewater on Silver Creek - South Fork for all you adrenaline kick people. Now, you may assume that's lots but there's even more fun stuff to do here at Buck
Island Lake. Nearby lakes? Sure, Rockbound Lake is in close proximity to Buck Island Lake; on a glorious day you can take a hike along the Highland Trail. The Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is always beautiful.
