Big Lake sees pretty high levels of precipitation; during December this area sees the most rain, and July is when it's the driest. And that's not all you can do here in the Coast Ranges. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Trinity River - South Fork, and Big Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Gray Falls Campground is a good local campground. Go for       a hike on the Dan East Trail, and a good view of pretty Sims Mountain is available. And if you're still looking for more outdoors exciting things just keep reading. Going for a hike on the Grouse Creek Tractor Way is always a wonderful adventure, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop at close by Sucker Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Near Big Lake you find the Grouse Creek Tractor Trail which is a great hiking trail, and a nice spot                  to camp here at Big Lake is Slide Creek Campground. This lake is so wonderful. Just can't get enough of the Coast Ranges. At Big Lake you always meet someone from Eureka-Arcata-Fortuna, and needless to say, this is a wonderful vicinity for folks who like lakes, Dry Lake is a lake nearby. For the duration of the warm days of summer here at Big Lake, high temperatures typically reach the 90's with night lows in the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 50's with temperatures at Big Lake dipping down into the 30's through winter nights. If you come at the right time of year, Trinity River offers some great whitewater, and if you're looking for some flowing water?
