Whohoo, so many fun things in one place! The Northern Sierra Nevada is great! At Avalanche Lake you always meet someone from Gardnerville Ranchos. Get your heart beating on the fine whitewater of American River - South Fork, and a perfect close by hotel is Pine Cone Acre Motel. Now, you may feel that's heaps but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Lakes? Sure, Pitt Lake       is close at hand, and the summit of Cracked Crag can be seen from Avalanche Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Avalanche Lake without first going for a hike along the Hawley Grade Trail; a brilliant location like Desolation Valley here at Avalanche Lake is too splendid to miss. If you want a glorious time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Avalanche Lake. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Avalanche Lake; Red Peak Trail is a good local trail,                  and there are other locations here than Avalanche Lake, for example Ropi Lake. There's tremendous hiking along the Windmiller Trail; Fortyfive Mile Campground is a glorious campground nearby. You can run the rapids of Silver Creek - South Fork right next door to Avalanche Lake, and Sayles Flat Campground is a good local campground. And if that's not enough there's a heap more entertaining stuff to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada. A trip to Avalanche Lake wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Horsetail Falls; the skiing at Sierra at Tahoe is great. This lake is so wonderful. Why not take a look at nearby Pyramid Creek if you're here at Avalanche Lake, and after a long day outdoors Harvest Inn-St Helena, Napa Valley is a splendid location to spend a night or two. The yearly rain here at Avalanche Lake is about average; January is the wettest month with most snow, and the driest month is July. Be careful coming to Avalanche Lake, you might not ever want to return back home again. Kirkwood is a perfect local ski area; if you yearn for a little side spree, try Rocky Canyon. For the duration of the summer at Avalanche Lake highs are frequently in the 70's; the night is fairly cooler of course, regularly in the 40's. Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 40's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Avalanche Lake plunge into the 10's.
