Arthur Lake is a beautiful lake in the Southern Cascade Range. Going for a hike on the Pacific Crest Trail - section 17 is always a magnificent adventure; at Arthur Lake you can spot Sugar Pine Mountain. You clearly have to fancy the Southern Cascade Range. If only every place had this much outdoors cool stuff, what a great earth it would be. Good hiking is available along the Nelson Flat Trail, and you're most likely addicted to lakes, Silver Lake is

| | one of those close by. This lake is so wonderful. Lakes are good; Blue Lake is a lake that's in the neighborhood of Arthur Lake, and lots of people from Redding come here. These mountains rock, just check out all the exciting stuff to do in the Southern Cascade Range. If you came to camp South Cow Creek Campground is a splendid site to do that, and there are some delightful whitewater spots on Pit River. There's so much to do here at Arthur Lake that you | |

need to camp here for a while, Old Cow Creek Campground is a perfect place for that; you can go for a hike on the Bunchgrass Trail. Through the warmest time of the year at Arthur Lake temperatures are frequently in the 80's while
overnight lows are typically in the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Arthur Lake fall into the 20's. Arthur Lake is a relatively wet place usually
with a lot of rain; January is when you get the most rain here while July is ordinarily the driest month.

Pacific Crest Trail - section 17
 | 17 miles away Roundtrip Distance 11.8 miles Elevation Gain 2,702 ft. This peak is trailless, meaning a portion or all of the route up the mountain is via an unmarked trail. For this particular mountain, the typical route is known as a ''herd path'' which is not much more than a worn, but unmarked trail. Some of the herd paths are easy to follow, others are not. In many instances the hiker will travel down a false herd path and eventually have to correct his/her course via backtracking. For these particular mountains, it is imperative that the hiker carry a compass (and know how to use it) and topographic map.... |
