| | Two temperatures are frequently in the 90's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are mostly in the 50's while Detention Number Two night low temperatures through the winter are in the 20's.

At Detention Number Two you don’t see much precipitation; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and the driest
of the months is June. If you came to camp Salt Bend Campground is a fine place to do that, and why not visit Highway Tank Dam since you're here.

Seneca Lake
 | Drove past lake on the way to Show low not knowing it was there. All we saw was an old trading post and some buildings. We decided to see what the buildings were and stumbled upon the lake. It looks like a great lake to fish. There were many group and individual camping sites but while driving around the lake I got this feeling like we were in the beginning of a horror movie. With the dilapidated gas station, restaurant, and cabins....Was at seneca this weekend 05/22,23/09 fishing was good caught trout and bass. The bathrooms are pretty much trashed your better off finding a big bush to use. Use precautions when camping a bear was sited in the camp next to ours.... |
Salt River

Most of this river runs through the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation. (... ) It is very important because you MUST buy a permit from the tribe to run this river. This river is navigable only from March-May, and very occasionally they will open it again for August. It is only to be run by experienced river runners, due to the big rapids which go up to Class IV. If you don't know whether you are an experienced river runner, then you don't belong there. There are commercial companies who will take you on a rafting trip for about $130. It's a lot of fun, it's an all-day trip, includes a good lunch. This is what I would recommend for the tourist. Some of the companies that run trips are raftthesalt. Com, Canyon Rio, In A Raft, Wilderness Aware Rafting. Again, this is only in March and April, sometimes into May.
You can't enter this property or drive the dirt road along the river without a permit. You can't camp or fish without a permit. The tribe will give you a ticket and might also confiscate your gear! You need to get a permit!
