Near Apache Lake you hit upon the Soldier Camp Trail which is a splendid hiking trail; a short tour to Horse Pasture Spring is always worthwhile. An out of the ordinary thing to check out close to Apache Lake is Horse Mesa Dam, and lakes are such serene spots, why not explore Canyon Lake.
