Lake Fort Smith Dam is worth a visit since you're here; after a long day outdoors Comfort Inn & Suites is a great site to spend a night or two. And if that's not enough there's a load more exciting stuff to do in the Boston Mountains. There's some flowing water close by, Campbell Branch is a stream you can pop by during your stay, and perhaps you're looking for close by lakes? Sure, Hammond Lake is just a very short distance away. This lake is one of the great
places here in the Boston Mountains.
This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Clear Creek; Alma Koa Kampground is a magnificent local campground. For the period of the summertime at Lake Fort Smith highs are mostly in the 90's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 60's. For the duration of the winter highs are ordinarily in the 40's, and throughout the dark hours in the winter at Lake

Fort Smith temperatures drop to the 20's. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the entertaining stuff at Lake Fort Smith. Get your pulse rate up on the fine whitewater of Frog Bayou; dry warm beds await you at Days Inn Alma.
This lake is so wonderful. This is a glorious vicinity for folks who like lakes. Lake Sheppard Spring Reservoir is a lake close at hand, and KOA Campgrounds is a delightful campground nearby. A great deal of precipitation falls at Lake Fort Smith; May is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is January.
Now, you may believe that's heaps but there's even more enjoyable things to do here in the Boston Mountains. Take a hike on the Shores Lake Water Rock Spur, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Butterfield Hiking Trail.

Clear Creek
This stretch of water is challenging. A lot of rapdids coming one after the other insures no boredom. We put in at Chester and rode it into Frog Bayou with the level at 2.9 We can hardly wait to see what it's like 3.5!...

Frog Bayou
I don't know where you are from, but you obviously don't know the best way to run Frog Bayou. It is not by raft. An open canoe is best. Kayaks are fine. But this is not the Rocky Mountain West and rafts are too big for these Ozark great creeks like Frog Bayou. Solo or tandem open canoes rule....

Park Ridge RV Campground

My husband are traveling cross-country from California along Highway 40. Park Ridge RV Campground is our fourth stop and the best so far. They are nestled by a hillside with access to Lee Creek which might be full of fish for all we know. It is very serene here and the leaves are beginning to pop on the pecan trees.

They have a little country store that is really nice. Everyone here is very friendly and the proprietors live on the premises.

Laundry and shower facilities are well kept. It is a few blocks off Hwy 40 but oh, so quiet. Loads of birds.

Full Hook-ups, and pull-through sites. I would love to be able to have stayed longer but we will definitely come back!
