This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Rodeway Inn Hot Springs, and Gulpha Gorge Campground is a great local campground. During the summer months highs here at Desoto Lake get into the 90's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's, and overnight lows in the 20's for Desoto Lake. The scenery at Desoto Park Dam in the neighborhood of Desoto Lake is beautiful, and the

There's just no way anyone can get bored here at Desoto Lake. The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Big Chalybeate Spring, and get your heart pumping on the great whitewater of Gulpha Creek. This lake is one of the great places here in the Ouachita Mountains. At Desoto Lake you always meet someone from Hot Springs. All
the outdoors fun things in the Ouachita Mountains will keep you coming back many times. An afternoon playing golf at Magic Hills Public Golf Course is always a joy; you could always explore The Gorge.
Not enough hours in a day
to enjoy the Ouachita Mountains. Visiting Hot Springs National Park is just something you need to do if you haven't yet. Lakes? Sure, Ricks Pond is in the vicinity. Desoto Lake is a pretty wet place generally with a lot of rainfall; May is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is January.

This stream is really small and can only be paddled after locally heavy rain. Most of the rapids are in the first half mile and a few more when you join up with the main fork of Blakely creek.
De Roche creek nearby is a better run but this would make a good chaser or a good intro to creek paddleing.... |
