Not far from Bass Lake you get some good water scenery at North Lake Dam; after a long day outdoors Hillhigh Resort is a perfect site to spend a night or two. Lake Pioneer is a tremendous lake in close proximity to Bass Lake; whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Strawberry River. This lake is so wonderful. There are some pleasant whitewater spots on Spring River - South Fork, and Strawberry River Campground is a good local

| | campground. A great deal of rain falls at Bass Lake; through the month of May you get the most rain around here; January meanwhile is the driest month. High temperatures at Bass Lake during the summer are in the 80's; the nighttime is a bit chillier of course, usually in the 60's. Highs through the wintertime are typically in the 40's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Bass Lake drop into the 10's. That right there is lots already, | |

but it keeps on going; Bass Lake has it all. There are other locations here than Bass Lake, for example North Lake, and near Bass Lake you stumble on a golf course called Turkey Mountain Golf Course. If you want a perfect time
in the great outdoors just come on up to the Boston Mountains. Dry warm beds await you at Best Western Village Inn; if you came for an overnight stay New Horizon RV Park is a tremendous place to camp. Bass Lake is located in the Boston Mountains.  | 11 miles away The actual name of this lake is John A. Cooper Lake. It was named in honor of the famous developer of Cherokee Village, AR. This lake sits on Private Property belonging to the Chickasaw Council, Boy Scouts of America. The property is known as Kia Kima Scout Reservation. The property staffed by a full-time ranger and is available year round to Scouts and the occasional community/church groups. The camp is accessible by reservation only. He was employed by a contractor to work on the then future ''Thunderbird Lake''. I went to work with him one day and rode in a dump truck as he brought out load after load of rock and gravel.
